24" Assault 4 str 3 ap -2 D1, "If a unit suffers any unsaved wounds from the weapon, your opponent must subtract 1 from their hit rolls until the end of the turn."
The problem I'm seeing is a RAW vs RAI, if the eldar player goes second in each turn, the wording would suggest that the special rule the gun brings cannot go into affect. Example, your opponent goes first on turn 1, then you get your turn 1, shoot with your sunrifle, get a wound, the special affect triggers, your turn 1 ends and they immediately go into their turn 2. RAW seems to mean that if you go second in each turn you never get the affect of the gun, RAI seems to be that the next time the unit shoots, they have -1 to hit. I think this needs an errata, agree?

There are no turns that consist of each player's turn anymore.
Sunrifles work if your charging the target and they overwatch, and then in the subsequent Fight phase.
They also work if you're getting charged and manage to get someone with Overwatch in that Fight phase.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

"Turn" is in reference to player turn anyway. "Battle round" is what you're thinking of, in which each player gets a turn.
Tyranid Gargoyles have the same ability on their melee attack, worded the same, so I believe it's intended, or one or the other would probably say "end of your opponent's next turn."

This man/woman/attack helicopter has it right. It only affects the turn you're actually in, so it's only useful for killing off their hit rolls for overwatch/fighting.

A turn is only ever a player turn, so as written this actually just doesn't do much unless you're going into CC later in the turn. Edit: I was way too slow.

Side note although the question has already been answered some people noted about this affected overwatch. In the BRB when firing overwatch models always hit on a 6 regardless of any modifiers.
So there is no way to boost a model's overwatch or deny it with negative modifiers unless something specific in a Index specifically states it affects overwatch fire.

This. Overwatch is uneffected by modifiers. The use of this is to help keep your assault units alive after they charge. Eldar are all about synergy and using units in tandem with one another.

That's not how it is worded. The wording is : a roll of a 6 is always required to hit during OW regardless of your ballistic skill or modifiers.
I was wondering about the same as I was looking at Phoenix Nightfire missile array. By it's wording, it only works during your turn, basically ("until the end of the turn"). If we read OW rule as "always hits on 6" that means both Sunrifle and NMA are absolutely useless against shooting attacks.
But if we read OW wording as "you must roll at least 6 regardless of your BS or bonuses", Sunrifle & NMA do work as (probably) intended.
Or maybe they are indeed just against Fight phase. I dunno. But then most of these rules except warlock's Drain work basically on the turn you charge, and since you fight first anyway... it all does look pretty goddamn useless, eh?
