As per the title, what part of the way 8e works do you find to be unfluffy?

In another thread there was mention that every psyker gaining access to smite made 8e a bad ruleset. I quite like it because it just makes sense to me (back in 5e, Librarians used to be able to open S10 holes in the warp, or throw Ap2 lightning bolts at people). By the token of me finding that to be fluffy, there must be some people out there who think that 8e conflicts with fluff.

Let's have it then!

hmmm.

Not sure on this one. The actual craziness of battle seems about right so it would have to be a quirk unit that comes up.

From all the fluff/units I know of....about 85% were made or referenced back in rogue trader or 2nd edition. Very little has been introduced except some forgeworld stuff on the fluff side of things and recent novels/characters. It is just now there are actual models produced for the fluff

I have yet to read a good 40k novel that at any point inferred or directly depicted a valkyrie fist fighting a leman russ vanquisher. I'll confess I've only read a couple dozen so it's possible I just haven't encountered that yet, it may be out there for me to discover in the pages of some unread tome.

Very few books involving guard involve them giving right of way to the enemy, the enemy usually end up in their tracks/sights, at least in the good guard books Baneblade driver: "commander, there's a single grot in our path! Commander: "Mother of god! Fulls stop"

"Sir, it's night time and they used smoke launchers! Is this your first time using a plasmagun!? You'll kill us all you fool!"

Because that would require imagination, or a sense of reality. GW has neither.

If I had to take a stab at it, I'd go with a Black Templar Crusade stopping by an Imperial core world after three thousand years on the charge. The Marshal is very unhappy to see what he considers to be no less than techno-heresy and an insult to the glory of the only true sons of the Emperor. Driven by righteous anger, his Emperor's-Champion-to-be receives a vision of a nightmarish battle on the fringes of the Cicatrix Maledictum, somewhere between Prospero and Golgotha, where Primaris Marines led by a malevolent AI wage war against the Imperium. Cue a Holy War of such magnitude that it gives the Great Crusade a run for its money, as more and more religious fanatics fall behind the Templar's glorious lead.

But a single grot will envelop an enemy tank in a veil of darkness that prevents all shooting to and from just by standing within 5 feet.

The statement contradicts itself.

Only the units listed on the Death Guard Legion page can take <Death Guard> as their Legion

Terminators are not on that list

Therefore, Death Guard can take Terminators (with no legion) but they cannot, as of right now, notwithstanding any future rules that we have no way of knowing yet beyond wild speculation, take Death Guard Terminators. Which is precisely what I said

As far as I am aware the Valkyrie can't fight the Vanquisher in 8th ed either as the vanquisher does not have FLY.

I think you're referring to airborne and it loses that in hover mode. People aren't being obtuse sadly, it seems pretty much any flyer with hover mode stops being a flyer more or less while doing so (loses airborne) in addition to hard to hit and supersonic.

Apart from DG Terminators having turned up in one of the preview videos.

statement doesn't contridict itself at all. we've SEEN death guard terminators are coming, presumably death guard will be able to take those specific ones instead of generic chaos terminators.

as for flamers killing vehicles, it's MOSTLY silly yes, but not ALWAYS

The dark behind the eyes.

The targeting characters thing can get rather silly at times.

For example, a unit can pick out a Terminator Captain standing just in front of a unit of near-identical Terminators, yet they can't pick out a CCB floating just behind a unit of Scarabs.

Other oddities include not being able to pick out a character even when there's nothing near him, because there are closer units in the opposite direction.

Or, my personal favourite, not being able to pick out a character becuase you can't distinguish him from the closer unit that is completely hidden from sight by terrain.

Just thought of one - A Tactical Squad and a Devastator Squad face a unit of Boyz and a Warboss. The Boyz charge the Tactical Marines, and the Warboss sits on an objective.

Because the Boyz are closer, the Devastators cannot shoot the Warboss, and because the Boyz are in combat, the Devastators can't shoot them either.

Devastator Sergeant Gryphon, realising he's just been snookered by a bunch of big green fungus-monsters, considers retiring and becoming a Drill Sergeant in a Scout Company.

Battleshock as a whole:

A Berzerker squad charges a Venom. 3 of the 5 die to Overwatch, before they proceed to paste the Venom into a bloody paste, before piling in to slay the surviving passengers. After annihilating everything in sight, they fail Battleshock and wander off to grab a beer, to the relief of some very confused Drew Carey.

Meanwhile, Kharn the Betrayer sat out on the whole affair because he failed his Charge roll. I don't think that's how he got his epithet...

I also like that all psykers have a default power that can harm anything. If nothing else, lashing out with warp energy is a basic power. That said, I kinda hate that other psychic powers are so limited right now.
