A quick question. In a unit of Ork Boyz you can replace one Ork Boy for a Boss Nob.

- Does this mean you have to add the point cost of a 'Nob' for the unit?
- Do the Ork Boyz sets contain a Boss Nob or do you have to buy them seperately as Nobz?

Things like nobz (and excarchs for eldar), nobz are just the cost of another boy. So, for boyz, a nob costs 6 points, for commandos they're 9, stormboy nobz are 8, etc.

It's a little odd, but that's the general consensus.

The nob's basically a free upgrade to one of the boyz, much like a sergeant in a squad of marines. You obviously still have to pay for any fancy wargear you give him though.

I believe the current boyz set has enough bits to make one of them into a nob. All my boyz are from before the kit got updated though, so maybe someone else can confirm.

Kind of, you get a slightly bigger torso and an arm with a power klaw and swanky slugga pistol. There is a noticable difference between this 'faux Nob' and a proper one from the Ork Nob box though.

Ah, nice one. I thought this might be the case but, not having ever actually seen one, I didn't want to start spouting off!

To be more accurate, it's not a consensus, it's written out clearly in the index(es). It's easy to miss though.

A Nob is 17 points. A Boss Nob (which is what the Boy upgrades into) is not listed.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

In the particular case of Orks (and the other armies in the book) it's on p.126 of Index: Xenos 2 under the heading "Unit Champions" – there are broadly similar statements in broadly similar locations in the other Indices.
