Are BT worth it now? I know "everything is worth using" now with 8th, but how do they measure up? They went from a full codex to a couple special characters and a unit the past 4 editions. Sword brethren are now an upgrade to crusader squads. The book looks like you can run all three characters, bunch of big angry squads, maybe back it up with a couple units of termies, solo characters and such. Worth doing? Or are they nothing special?

I currently have the following models to have some fun with Templars and a few friends:
Both Emp Champion models (one could be a solo character)
Helbrecht
Grimaldus
Enough marines from BoP/Calth to have cool BT in older armor
10 sword brethren
Cataphracti and Tartarus termies
Contemptor dread
Imperial Knight
Sisters of Silence
Custodes
Callidus and Vindicare assassin.

You won't know until the genuine Marine Codex is out.

I meant specifically with the indexes that are currently out. Sorry. And yes, I do have the imperial 1 book. Not the one for the knight, sisters, assassins and custodes.

Current index wise.

you have access to a chapter master as black templar. imperial fists and a few other chapters are screwed on that front (reroll ALL to hits is really really nice) also yours gives +1 str which is a baller bonus

otherwise you basically have what every other marine has so if you find that marines are worth it then black templars are worth it.

So basically they'll work. I was really considering running them with some cataphracti termies, SoSs for psychic shut down, a badass knight and some custodes and the two assassins; one for fluff to blow up psykers, one for the deadly accurate shots. Figured it would be a fun and fluffy idea. It's a psychic shut down army that'll also pack some punch with the main army.

Well that is the black templars theme

go for it though make sure you only fight people with filthy witches.

I am actually do the exact same thing with my BoC models and some BT upgrade sprues. Pretty much everything you listed but instead of the knight im using some preds and a land raider.

"a couple special characters and a unit" is pretty much what the codex was. A few special weapon power creeps isn't enough to warrant their own codex.

....well I guess the vows were unique enough. Pretty much just took re-rolls.

The only competitive aspect to their unit is that you can take wounds on the scouts. So you save a bit in min/max points.
....this is assuming you want to even run tactical squads.

Emperors champion is a blender vs enemy character.

Like 2+ . Re roll. S6. D3...
You will rarely miss..

Vs regular. Still dangerous but not blending.

One more thing; I'm grabbing the Imperial Index II tomorrow, and I wanted to check on the Sisters of Silence. They aren't limited to a single squad in an army or anything, right? I don't want stats or anything, just checking if you can have more than one squad. Thanks again guys.

They're Imperium so you can have as many as you can find slots for in a battleforged army

You know codex's are getting released soon, so be prepared for the index to be invalid in like 1.5months.

I know. It's cool. The Space Marine book is close, but the assassins and sisters and such I expect to be further down the line. Thanks for the responses guys!

Played a few games with BT so far and they're surely worth playing.

Helbrecht and units including let's say a LRC...within 6" reroll ANY failed hits and models within 6" gain +1 Strength.
The Champion is brutal as usual and Grimaldus is the only one not worth taking imo with the only gain over a Chaplain is hit rolls of 6 gain 1 Attack and has a Plasma Pistol for about 50 points extra.
Cenobyte unit costs 6pts and any unit within 12" automatically pass morale tests, auto include for me.

The LRC can get targeted and it's not great when wounded but I had great success with a Techmarine strapped to its butt.

Crusader Squads are flexible as usual, that said as an army you really need the buffs from other units and HQs and that can get expensive.

I wouldn't play with what you have at the moment as you lack tanks and transports.

Cenobytes seems pointless considering you have to lose a lot of marines before even needing to take moral AND you get a reroll on moral anyway.

rather use those points on weapons.

Depends on the size of your squads and your dice karma, they were handy a few times for me and them being elites you may be able to take a Vanguard detachment and 1 CP with it which also allowes me to take 4 HQs.

So very situational and not really worth it for 5 man squads, otherwise for 6 pts why not.
