Does anyone else think they're too overpowered being able to drop of anyone 9 inches away and then they get to move their full distance on top of that? Means meltas are guarenteed to be in range of your vehicles and monstrous creatures. And with orders they're even more OP. Does anyone reckon that rules as intended meant that you must keep the unit 9 inches away by the time the movement phase ends? I know RAW lets you do this move but it's a bit ridiculous being able to come out of a plane in the same grav chutes tempestus deep strike from yet be able to move the 6 inches

Is there a rules query here?

Yes do you play it rules as written or rules as intended, in your own opinion

You have to disembark BEFORE the transport moves in the round. Makes kind of a big difference. If you fly up next to something, your enemy has to keep it there for a round before you get to disembark and move up. Or are Valks and Vendettas different in this way?
edit: ok, no I see it now. They can grav chute in a bit of a weird way. I don't think it makes them overpowered. Maybe worth their points for specific tactics. Think it's fine. Would be worse if something like the Wolves got it so they could get secured charges. In IG, it's perfectly fine imo.

I play IG & honestly, I'll never use either competitively. The points used on Valks/Vendetta are better spent elsewhere. Stormtroopers are great this edition, but like Dark Eldar are glass cannons. They can dish it out but as soon as you focus them they are dead. Which is even easier now that split fire is a thing. Which makes sense, because they aren't space marines. If someone is bringing in stormtroopers against you, remember they are basically a suicide squad. They are likely being brought in to pop high priority targets. With proper spacing, you can bubble wrap those units you don't want popped extending that 9" bubble much further. Limiting the usefulness of meltas.

I love to use my Valkerie to dump a unit of 3 Bullgryns with mauls and slabshields in front of my opponents lines. Sometimes I have to move further then 20'' but thanks to the command points re-roll I have yet to lose a Bullgryn by dropping them out of the plane.
I was also thinking of adding some inquisition acolytes as an additional safety net to absorb some ones on the drop.

It's not op by any means. Bubble wrap still works and IG don't have especially mean cc units that benefit from it. Bullgryns are alright though. And I'd fear flamers a lot more than meltas personally.

I have always considered Stormtroopers to be suicide units. Same with the Platoon Command squads back when we had Drop Troops doctrine.
