After reading up on Tau, I'm still confused about some rules. If anyone could help clear them up, I would greatly appreciate it.

1. How do mortal wounds inflicted by overcharge profiles work?
- Is it per weapon?
- Per model?
- Per unit?

2. Does the Ethereal's aura modifiers effect drones?

3. Are homing beacons a one time use or can a stealth unit lay down one per turn?

1. I presume this is in the case of a plasma gun you use damaging you. this is calculated per overcharged shot that scored a result of 1 after rerolls and then hit modifiers have been accounted for.

2. I'm inclined to say yes, as long as all the relevant keywords in the aura requirements are met (so if it does specify infantry, and drones do not have the infantry keyword, then it would be a no.)

3. No, only one homing beacon per unit. once it has been used, or the destruction condition is met (Enemy too close) then the benefit is lost for the rest of the game.

In the case of the CIB it seems to be per weapon (but I'm not 100% sure), as it reads "suffers a mortal wound after all of this weapon's shots have been resolved". This would mean you'd have to roll one weapon at a time, however, to see how many wounds they'd end up taking.

2. Does the Ethereal's aura modifiers effect drones?

No, as they are not Ta'u Empire <INFANTRY>, the are Ta'u Empire <DRONE>.

3. Are homing beacons a one time use or can a stealth unit lay down one per turn?

The way it is worded, I'd say they were only single use. "The unit may take a homing beacon" and "The homing beacon then shorts out and is removed from the battlefield", seem to hint at only being able to take one and it being destroyed after use. But it doesn't seem 100% clear to me.

It's Per Weapon

So the Legal way to play a Commander with 3 CIB is to roll each Weapon by itself.

Let's say you do roll each weapon at a time and roll
W#1 - 1,1,1
W#2 - 2,2,2
W#3 - 2,2,2

You would only suffer a SINGLE Mortal Wound, since you can only take 1 Mortal Wound per Weapon. Which also means.... If you roll...

W#1 - 1,2,2
W#2 - 1,2,2
W#3 - 1,2,2

You would suffer -*3*- Mortal Wounds, since you're suffering a mortal wound per weapon.

When rolling for Crisis Suit Teams, if you're going to fast roll it. I suggest you at least do it on a per model basis.

6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47

Thanks a lot for the above responses, which has cleared up my confusion.

I had another question come to mind. When you count units you deploy during deployment to see who goes first, do you count transports with units as a single unit or multiple? Does the same ruling go for not only dedicated transports, but Tidewall transports too?

Transport is 1
Anything inside the Transport is 0

Just use different colored dice for different guns.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

This made me think about it...
It also means that if you roll every weapon on a single models all together then you shouldn't take more Mortal Wounds than weapons than it carries.
So, 3 weapons, 3 mortal wound maximum
