Hi, still relatively new to the forum so forgive me if this is discussed in other threads. What is an effective space marine melee list looking like? So far the units I've seen suited to this are:
Captain
Chaplain
Librarian
Company Veterans
Honor Guard (several of them seems awesome)
Vanguard Veterans
Bikes and Scout Bikes
Champions
Assault marines

Supported by:
Conscripts/Priest combo
Death cult assassins
Eversor Assassins
Custodes (maybe)
Sisters of silence (melee version)
etc

This edition is kind of overwhelming lol but from my own analysis assault marines are average/okay compared to scout bikes and regular bikes. I'm figuring throwing several honor guard in one transport, vanguard vets in another and so on till I have a good 3-4 transports full of melee marines to tear up the field. Alas, I'm rambling. What do y'all purpose for a melee specific list? It doesn't have to be full on every unit must be assaulting I will have back line units supporting but I suppose I'm missing the meat and potatoes of a good melee army. What do you guys recommend ?

Terminators and assault terminators are both good in assault. Not sure why you completely skipped them.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Ahh, I've been apprehensive for their points cost and that 9" charge, barring a terminator librarian or command re roll on the charges. The changes to this edition have me personally approaching a combined arms approach with all imperium units. This way for example a couple 30 man commisar blobs trudge up the field while the actual marines provide the shock assault tactic

Do SW units count? Thunderwolves and wulfen are still very punchy.

I'm amazed you're missing of the dreadnoughts, they don't wipe units of weak infantry sure but they make singular big models or heavy infantry like ogryns weep

Been trying to figure this out lately too, with a focus on non-chapter specific units that don't require transports.

Leaves pretty much the following (please let me know if I am missing anything):

+ Vanguard Veterans w/ Jump Packs
+ DKOK Riders
+ Rough Riders
+ Seraphims (It's a stretch, but they're some what in this slot)

Of these, seems like the Veterans with x2 chainswords or DKOK riders would be OK - largely depending on if DKOK are written as intended.

Terminators are brutally expensive, and I haven't found elite models to be rewarded so far.

How are we forgetting Custodes. Pretty much the best elite CC in the imperium and can mulch any opponent.

Custodes just seem too expensive for what they do at the moment, and if they need a transport that's about 39 power level for a squad of 1 and a land raider (don't have my index infront of me). I was mainly looking for non codex specific units for any generic space marine army accompanied by imperium units.

I'll admit I really have been putting off dreads, I guess I'm biased towards their low attack count haha.

How do twin chainsword marines/vets stack? 4 strength 4 attacks each sounds good, especially paired with the librarian's +1 S, T, and Attack power
