Feth is the name of the Tanith tree deity, it's not a 40k euphemism (as so many people seem to use it). Just a reminder, since it bothers me so much, I don't know.

I think most Dakka members do know that, seeing as the Gaunt's Ghosts books are as popular as they are.

Regardless, there are two reasons people use Feth as a euphemism:
- Even the Tanith themselves use it as a euphemism, even in universe, it becomes a euphemism.
- Because Dakka is a generally safe board, a traditional euphemism isn't really accepted. Therefore, a well-known fictional one (of which Feth is the most known) fills the role.

Yes, many people know that it's not just a euphemism, but it's used as one for many reasons.

feth is the board's auto-filter for the real "bad" word. People are writing the real word and getting filtered.

I always assumed it was a modification of "feck" from Father Ted

Actually, that's an actual Irish word, and apparently isn't the F-Word with a different vowel, and isn't obscene. Wikipedia tells me it means to "to steal" (who fecked my lunch from the fridge?) or to throw.

Which didn't stop B*Witched getting into trouble for saying it live on Saturday morning telly some years ago.

Its like if you call someone a pussy its got nothing to do with genitals its root word is pussiant which means weak in Latin or Greek I can't remember exactly.

Same with c*** its not in reference to a body part but to a Germanic word for an unpleasant person.

You're thinking of pusillanimous.

And in fact, "puissant" (which is a real word, derived from French) means strong, not weak!

Nah that can't be right i'm sure the french dont have a word for strong, just like they dont have a word for woman only for wife.
