So after a bit of argueing in the Dakka results thread about the OP conscripts I thought I might start a different thread:

How many times have you played one of these five spams and did you win or lose? Also I'd like you to post how many games you've played against IG, DE, SM, Daemons where they didn't use this spam.

(The W/L is that of the spam/non-spam list)

Imperial Guard

This thread is here to see 1. How common these three spams are, 2. How effective these spams are and 3. Whether the army is only considered 'good' because it has the ability to field this spam.

Please post your own results and I'll try to keep the OP up to date. Also, if there are any other spams you think should be recorded, please tell me and I'll add it.

Aye, the win/loss refers to that of the spam/non-spam list.

What about Scion (comsquad) spam?

My games vs them:
1 close win with orks
1 crushing defeat with sm

Games vs them that i've witnessed:
crushing defeat with orks
crushing defeat with deathwatch
crushing defeat with eldar

So, scion spam goes 4W (all victories by 3-d turn at worst) - 1L (barely managed to win them)

Luckily that list has already been faqed out. Standard scion spam is far less scary.

It's not That much worse. It has just changed a bit. Have still seen it flattening deathwatch and eldar. Though this time it was paired with taurox spam instead of basilisk spam.

That sounds like a scion list. If someone wants to play scions, they've got Troop Scions, Primes, Tauroxes, and maybe Valkyries to choose from. All of which are strong now.

I wonder if Harlequins became the new competitive hotness my Harlequin list would be called "Harlequin Spam" because I only have the one troop option

I've beaten orcs spamming boyz twice now and nids once with my wolves.

Lost to nids once but it wasn't an optimal list I was using character heavy which tabled a sm army but couldn't handle large numbers of infantry, not a one sided fight though.

Well, spam is not always something negative. Some spam lists are actually fun to play with or against - like killa kan spam. Or sm footslogging crusader squad spam. But if the person only spams the best stuff he has access to - like scion spam or stormraven spam - it is generally frowned upon.

Sure, but the guy who has "Scion Spam" now - do you know he didn't just have a horribly underpowered scion army in 7th? I know several people who have scion armies and just never played them due to how bad they were. Scions aren't "The best thing they have" it's the ONLY thing they have. hence my point with my "Harlequin Spam" list.

I can believe someone running out and buying 3-4 Stormravens to be the big fish in the small pond. But dropping several hundred bucks on 100-odd scion models strikes me as a little commitment heavy for the powergaming army-hopper.

So what counts as spam? I'm genuinely unsure which matches that I've played or watched you're interested in hearing about.

Like, I've seen lists with:
1) 2 to 6 scion/elysian plasma command squads
2) 2 scion command squads and 2 10-man Troops squads

3) 1 big unit of Conscripts
4) 2 big units of Conscripts

5) 5 individual Razorwing Flocks
6) 2 big units of Razorwing Flocks

7) 2 Stormravens
8) 3 Xiphons
9) 3 Vultures
10) 3 Hemlocks

It strikes me as weird to call a bunch of these spam. Even 6 command squads and primes is only about 600 points -- 2/3 of a 2k list is stuff other than the thing being spammed in this case. 2 big units of Conscripts is 300, plus maybe two Commissars and two officers would be another 160, so 3/4 of a 2k list is something other than Conscripts. 2 big units of Razorwings and a Beastmaster is less than 250 points -- they're only accounting for about 10% of the list. All of the flyer combinations I mentioned are less than 1/3 of a list's points.

So are some of the things I mentioned spam or are we talking about lists that are at least mostly composed of the thing being spammed? Is it not spam until we're talking about 10 scion drop squads or 4 big units of Conscripts or millions of Razorwings and the Yncarne or 4 or 5 Stormravens?

I'm rarely playing the list in question, as I mainly play DE, Nids, GSC and occasionally Imperial Soup (Inquisition). I'm including a couple of games from friends who don't post on Dakka.

Imperial Guard

Conscript spam
1W 0D 3L

Detail:
1) The Yncarne got into the back lines and killed the commisar. Bye, bye conscripts. Only had 100 conscripts. Is that spammy enough?
2) Stealers ripped the conscripts apart. More stealers ripped the tanks apart. The Exocrines and Harpy helped.
3) Space Marine Bikers all died. Other units followed quickly. Conscript Victory.
4) Killed all the tanks with Dark and Bright lances. The conscripts were still wrestling a Talos at the end of the game.

Scion spam
0W 0D 1L

1) My opponent dropped in to kill my Exocrines. He did this. Then I slaughtered his scions. This was a weird tactical mistake on his part, he even chose to go first, which against another drop army is just silly. I have no idea what he was thinking.

Non-conscript/scion spam
1W 0D 1L

1) Guard versus Thousand Sons, long game, looked fun. Guard took it in the end with rough riders grabbing an objective.
2) Guard versus 20 Berserkers in a Kharbydis Drop pod. This ended poorly for the guard. They had a mix of tanks, infantry squads and I think 2 squads of scions (not spam right?)

Space Marine

Stormraven spam
0W 0D 2L

1) Dark Eldar shot them. They died. Some lances were used, some Tantalus shots. All was well.
2) Imperial Soup vs Ravens. Turns out 144 shots a turn with mid strength weaponry rerolling to hit will get the job done. Kastelans are really nice.

Non-Stormraven spam
0W 0D 5L

Space marines are just not that strong pre codex. They fold to well applied force. Had 3 good games with Space Wolves, but ultimately won on objectives due to better movement cpacity or tabled them each time. Other games were kinda walk overs.

Dark Eldar

Razorwing spam

Most of my games are with DE I've played somewhere between 10 and 20 games with them this edition and have lost 2 so far.
