Hello folks bought the start collecting Malignants set, would like to see how people have painted them up, i'm also open to conversions even if they're not painted yet. Links to painting tutorials would also be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Well, i hate to paint so im only doing washes, glazes and drybrushing. as sutch ghosts are exelent for this, but i dident bother to buy the maligant set as the mortis engine dont have the nighthaunt keyword for some unexplainable reason, and i run pure nighthaunt.

Did use a blue theme for my ghosts, nothing fancy just a step up from the plain plastic grey.
Spoiler:

But now i no longer like it or the base, so i traded moust of them away and bought some new ghosts that this time i want in green. i know what kind of base i want(swamp) but dont know how to make it yet..

Sorry to be off-topic, but take at a look of this tutorial for a swamp base:
http://www.coloureddust.com.pl/2013/02/how-to-make-swamp.html

I did one test piece for my Swamp Ogres, and it came out okay, though the actual ones will have less stones and more swamp grass.

No that's fine hanskrampf, it seems like it would be helpful for frozendwarf. p.s i like the base you've shown plus the tutorial, i want to try it actually so thanks.

I like what you've done with those ghosts, simple ( don't take that the wrong way) and effective i do enjoy drybrushing find it relaxing can give great results also. sometimes it gets a bad rep though as it can be done badly and in the wrong situation, as you say great for spirit hosts and it works well on the knights too. have to say think the green is my preffered one. does seem the night haunts don't have a massive range, at least not where i was looking, kind of wish this set had the reapers with the scythes i think those are the vampire ones though.

Great work and toturial, but not what i had in mind for my ghost. its too wet and "nasty" =P
but dont worry, i will crack it eventualy for my own models.

well part of the reason to why i abandoned blue is cuz my drubrushing is sloppy and bad. (0 and mean 0 patience for painting armys, single models that is limited in numbers is better for me)
On that note i have a tomb banshee and a morngul that i put some extra effort in that came out pretty ok in blue so i will keep thouse alongside my green. adds a bit of flavor.( the horrors from the cold north summons the local green ghosts =P)

Whit green i kept it very, plain and it turned out neater then the blue. A solid white undercoat spray (not gw white as that is way too thick) and 1 layer of waywatcher green glaze that is a bit watered down. thats it, done.
It takes me 3x longer to actualy assemble the model then to "paint them" just as i want it.

As for playing pure nighthaunt, yes it is VERY limited when you play whit points. (when you play open it dont matter)
You only have 2 units; hexwraiths and spirithosts, nothing else. 2 heroes; tomb banshee and cairn wraith but they dont have a command ability or aura buff so they are not actualy heroes in that regards. It is fine up to 1000p but if you are going for 1500-2000p you need mourngul from forge world.
In a pure nighthaunt army, black coach is pointless as you need necromancers to lv it up but they dont have the nighthaunt keyword so you cant bring any, and that allso means summoning is out of the question.(GW has realy fumbled it when it comes to keywords for death considering that the mortis engine is a necro on a stone base carried by and sorunded by ghosts, yet it dont have the nighthaunt keyword.......)

So, you need to play grand alliance to make the full of nighthaunt but that means you cant use spirit hosts as battleline units and have to get skellys, flesheaters or zombies. (on the bright side, you can add mutch better units as backup for the ghosts and heros whit actual buffs and command abilitys)
But me beeing a casual player and prefering small games rather then big, it works for now( the whole army beeing flying, are immune to rend, 2-4 wounds per model and 2x saves if whitin 6" of a hero is handy). but there is no point in denying that death is running the abselute bare minimum for its subfactions, and a complete revamp of death is in desperate need as 2/3 of the alliance is still in crap resin........

Here are some of mine:

I've got two mini factions within my Nighthaunt/Malignants collection - Wraiths and Spirits. The Tomb Banshee and the Spirit Hosts and painted mainly with nihilakh oxide whereas the Wraiths are painted to look like Grim Reapers.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

If i have had patience, that style for the hex is prolly what i would go for also.

Overall very good job.

Yeah seems a shame that they dropped the ball on this faction, hopefully they will address this very soon. I'm rather far from being able to play yet anyway, all the same I really should get the rule book bought, I'm quite tempted by this skirmish game thing too. No ideah how that game works though, plus i lack any insight into the units of the game so would have no idea how to build a force for it.

I love these minis you've painted amazing jobs on all of these, kind of reminds me of the ghosts in lord of the rings though those are much more green and human looking. Your photography looks like something you'd see in a warhammer magazines and such, in fact i'm thinking i may have seen the tomb banshee one before somewhere.

Thanks! I hope they serve as good inspiration. The spirits are painted as follows:

- White Undercoat
- Nihilahk Oxide
- Biel Tan Green / Lahmien Medium (applied to recessed)
- Pallid Wytch Flesh drybrush

Really simple. They can be painted up in a day! They haven't been in any magazines but the picture of the Tomb Banshee was featured on the old GW Community blog last year :-)
