Subject: Tyranid with allies, how would that work?

Going through my old colection, I found a chimera I painted for some grey knights. That along with a brood lord, and some genstealers probably puts me one troop unit away from having genestealer cult allies.
I only have the small part of the rules, and I have xenos 2. What I do not understand is if I take genestealer cult allies, how could I take some IG stuff as well? I am uninformed and confused.

I think there's a special rule right at the beginning of the GSC rules outlining how it works. You basically get to take a separate detachment of AM.

So my allies would have to have allies? Or am I misunderstanding something? Would I need a minimum of HQ and troops etc?

Basically: For every genestealer cult detachment you take, you can take one imperial guard detachment. The imperial guard detachment's keywords don't matter for the purpose of determining if your army is battle forged or not. So, both would need to be legal detachments, though of any variety.

Basically, you need to take a minimum of one detachment of GSC of any type, which then allows you to add a detachment of any type of Astra Militarum units.
So, for example you could take a GSC Batalion (2HQ+3Troops) and then take a AM Patrol (1HQ+1Troop minimum) in order to take the chimera. Sadly you can't just take the chimera on it's own as it's a dedicated transport (and can't take an aux detachment either :( )

Okey.
But a patrol detachment is just one HQ and one troop?
Also, the chimera is a transport for genestealer cult. I guess they highjacked it.
I sadly also see the Chimera does not have genstealer cult ambush rule. So it can't just pop up willy nilly.
How would the cult units function when it comes to deoployment? Do I count my regular models and my allies to see how many units I can have in ambush? Or can I only have half of the genstealers in ambush?

If you have one detachment of pure genestealer cult units you can take one imperial guard detachment of any type. The patrol detachment is the easiest type to field, with a minimum of 1 HQ and 1 Troop, but it can include several other units as well.
This means that you can field an army with one tyranid detachment, one genestealer cult detachment and one imperial guard detachment as long as each of these detachments is pure.
When it comes to deployment the total number of units in your army is the only relevant number.

You can set up any unit with the Cult Ambush rule ready to ambush. However half your army regardless of detachment must be deployed on the table at the start. You can use your Imperial Guard units to soak up that minimum since they don't have the Cult Ambush rule anyway.
