I'm thinking about picking up some Primaris marines. I have Index: Imperium 1.

In the Index, there are entries for Intercessors and Inceptors with the "Primaris" keyword. There are also a couple of Primaris single model units.

Are all of the Primaris data sheets from Dark Imperium/Know no Fear/First Strike included in the Primaris datasheets in the Index, or are there additional sheets/rules in those sets that aren't covered in the Index?

I think reivers are not in the index but First Strike should have their datasheets. If not, they're in the Space Marine Codex.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

The rules come in the boxes themselves.

Yes, I realize that, but I'm considering buying some open sprue models on ebay that don't necessarily have the boxed rules included in the auction. This is why I'm trying to find out if I'll already have all of the necessary datasheets if I buy some Primaris Marine sprues from someone parting out sets on ebay.

Well, the codex is going to invalidate all of it by the time you get them ready regardless.

You can probably find the datasheets online if you don't plan to get the codex though.

The answer is sadly no. Tthe Codex will invalidate the rules in the Index, but it includes more options for those same units alongside all the new units. The rules in the First Strike set for Reivers aren't the full ruleset for them, either, so even if you manage to get your hands on them you're not doing yourself too many favours.

Depends what people mean by "invalidate." If you're not playing at an event and the people around you aren't necessarily adherents of the cult of the new, there's no reason why you can't keep going with the index. My local community has been pretty open about this over the years and I know at least a couple people that have already stated they are enjoying their games and won't be getting the codex for their Primaris.

My guess is though that the strategems, chapter tactics and unit options are going to be sufficiently fun that they'll eventually make the transition. Though to be fair, during the entire life of 2nd edition since the release of the box set, I never did get a copy of the full codex for my space marines. Little black book for years. It was fine.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.
