So I have a friend who wants to start playing and he asked me if he could have more than one Space Marine chapter in his army. I think he can do this if he keeps them separated by detachment right? So one battalion or bigger detachment of one chapter and then a patrol or similar detachment of another one or two?

What about chapter buffs and units, would each detachment be able to still use their own chapter specific abilities (not on each other of course)? From the new Space Marine codex, do we know if your entire army has to be keyword "Chapter" to get the buffs or just detachment? Thanks!

I BELIEVE chapter tactics require an entire detachment. So in theory you could have an Ultramarine detachment and a Salamander detachment.

I'd wait for the codex in a few days before I went on a spending spree.
