Decided to try to use my space wolves--not sure what is really good in 8th for them but I like Arjac buffing wolf guard. I wanted to use thunder cav but I ran out of points and the wolf guard on bikes and dread get me more CPs with 3 elites choices. I know twin assault cannon razorbacks are better but I got mine second hand and don't have the bits to swap them out.

Battalion:

HQ:
Arjac 140
Wolf Lord on thunderwolf, hammer/shield 168 (not sure if worth)

TROOPS:
10 grey hunters, 2 plasma gun, power sword pack leader 170
5 grey hunters, plasma gun 83
5 grey hunters, plasma gun 83

DEDICATED TRANSPORT:
rhino, storm bolter 72
razorback, twin las, storm bolter 117
razorback, twin las, storm bolter 117

Vanguard:

HQ:
Wolf Priest 90

ELITES:
Venerable Dread, assault cannon, great claw with heavy flamer 153
5 Wolf guard termies, 3 hammer/shield, 2 wolf claw/shield 258
5 wolf guard on bike, 4 storm bolter/shield, pack leader with hammer/shield 235

HEAVY:
land raider crusader, multi melta 314

Termies+arjac+priest in the crusader, lord buffs wolf guard, land raider and razorbacks as they move up. Maybe the rhino squad should be 2x 5 man hunter teams with storm bolter pack leader and dump them out as needed for objectives? Not really sure what else to do.

Other models I own: 5 long fangs (3 with missile launchers, 1 with plasma cannon), vindicator, 5 thunder cav (power fist/shield sarge, 2 shield/bolt pistol, 2 chainsword/bolt pistol), 10 fenresian wolves/cyberwolves, 3 iron priest on wolf (2 with hammer/boltgun, 1 with hammer/helfrost pistol), 2 logan in terminator armor, 1 land speeder with heavy bolter, 5 more termies (2 with cyclone/storm bolter/chainfist, 1 with claw/chainfist, 1 with claw/shield, 1 with hammer/shield), 1 rune priest with axe/bolt pistol, 10 blood claws (2 have flamers), 1 pack leader with power sword or frost sword and bolt pistol, 1 pack leader with power fist and boltgun. Cav and termie arms can be changed out, second logan is painted different to be used as rune priest in termie armor. 4 of my bikers can be rune priests with axe/bolt pistol.

Don't sell the Twin Lascannon Razorbacks short.

In a 1500 point game against Demons the other day, I fielded two Twin Las. Razorbacks, a Ven. Dread w/ TL, and a Long Fang unit w/ 2xLas and 3xML.

I knocked some Greater Flying Demon down from 16 wounds to 3, the first turn of the game from "across the board"! You can't do that with Assault Cannons.

I get it that Assault Cannons are all the rage due to their massed amount of shots against blobs/hordes, but nothing says I hate your BIG STUFF like a face full of Lascannons.

Anyway, not a bad list. I'm not sold on Terminators yet, but I'm loving WG Bikes.

As to the WL on a TWC. I'd lose the TWC and put him on a bike and just run in tandem with the WG. You can keep his wargear as it is and he'll be able to help bailout the WG if they get stuck-in somewhere they don't want to be. Also if you can find the points to throw a WGBL on a bike into the unit, everyone is rerolling 1's to hit and to wound.

Something else I've toyed with is the idea of putting Combi-Plasmas on the WG Bikes. You lose five shots at 24" range and ten shots at 12". However now you've got between 5-10 shots that are -3 to armor saves dealing two wounds each. This could be critical if you end up facing off against Rubric Marines. One of their rules is that their armor save is improved by one for any damage that only deals 1 wound.

Just some thoughts. Good Luck!

That's a good point for the combi-plas--I like plasma just not sure where to get the points for it. I can drop the wolf priest for the battle leader and the bike for him by dropping the cav for the lord down to a bike. Maybe swapping the wolf guard termies for wolf guard in power armor?

I have nothing against twin las I just wanted to avoid people telling me to use assault cannon lol. The crusader and dread both have assault cannon for midrange dakka.

Do you think it would be worth squeezing in the 5 cav I have as another bike-like fast unit to draw fire and kill stuff?

I'm not really sold on TWC this edition. When they added to the number of attacks the rider got they were awesome. Now they seem pretty lackluster.

It's your call though. I tend to field alot of Grey Hunters and Blood Claws myself. Just personal preference I guess.

Field the units you like, have painted, have a personal history with, etc. You'll enjoy your games more and in the end it's all about having fun!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info

I think I will save the cav for more narrative games if they aren't great--who knows when the codex is released though; they might get a rebalance.

I wanna try the termies since they are resilient and can get better mileage with Arjac nearby. The wolf priest was only thrown in as a cheap buff character to further increase termie killiness.

They just have a different role now. In 7th edition the most common way to field TWC was to give them a lot of SS and powerfists/thunder hammers and let them ride with several characters. Now they're an anti-infantry unit, with no upgrades they have 6 attacks in close combat. If you give them a frost sword they will get 5 attacks at S5, half of them with AP-3 and the other half with AP-1. I can't play without them

This list is actually very close to my current list; Drop the wolf lord and find the points for another Venerable dread and you'd be basically dead on what my list runs. The Venerable Dreads with AC and heavy flamers can mulch up infantry proper-like.
