Hi people. So I was at this sale and I got for 35$ some vintage Dark Eldar models (two raiders, 1 ravager and two reaver bikers). I was wondering what I should buy next (besides the obvious start collecting box). I might be open to mix with some Harlequin, unless it might bring a disadvantage.

As far as Harlequins go I'd say you may want to buy whatever Troupe boxes are left at your FLGS. My guess is that the Troupe Master that comes with the current box will eventually come in his own blister pack once the repackaging is done for that faction so you'll thank yourself for getting him for $8 rather than $31.

Your should buy the models you like. Everything but wyches are good in dark eldar. If you want troops kabolite warriors are good.

If you want harlequins look on eBay, there was a box set that came with harlequins and for a while they were dirt cheap. For every five players you want one starweaver.

Next start looking at Hq, if you are doing harlequins and dark eldar you can play ynnari which has Yvraine as a powerful psycher.

But really get the models you like best.

Wyches just don't do anything. They are supposed to be great pit fighters trapping a unit in combat and slowly killing it. But now they don't lock things in combat and they hardly kill anything. Their inferiority is magnified when you compare them the harlequins.

This actually makes me sad. Such awesome models.

Don't despair! The models can also be used as Bloodbrides, "upgraded" Wyches that are more killy and are an Elite unit, instead of Troops

Yeah I dunno what he's talking about wyches are good against the right targets (just like everything else in DE).

Squads of weak infantry of similar size (fire warriors, Guardsmen) and big nasty things with a low number of powerful attacks (daemon prince) are their best targets.

The only thing the brides have over the wyches, is an extra attack not realy something to write home about

wychws are not bad, whomever says they aren't running them right.

10 strong unit, 3 hydra and 1a drugs, in a raider. Tarpit and break, hold mobs in cc with their fallback blocking rollof and positioning. 4 attacks, or 5 with brides. Stick succubus near them for rerolls. You can also use hellions for hit and run shenanigans.

Kabalites have the shooting advantage, if you want to play range games. Wyches are there to lock things down while your big guns clean house. Play them if you like drugs and cc.

Here, a local player has a DE army which is right feared. He has lots of small units of 5 Trueborn with either 4 blasters or 2 splinter cannons in Venoms or Raiders, and several Ravagers. It is very fast and can dish out a lot of damage by shooting.

I am going to disagree with the initial poster saying wyches are bad. I've found wyches are perfectly fine as long as you use them for the job of utility while other more specialized units, like Harlequins, incubi, Reavers or others do the killing in melee. They are bad in two circumstances: 1, when they are a small force added on to a mostly shooting based DE list, and 2, when they're like 2/3rds of your points in a full game and you're just running hordes and hordes of wyches. Treat them like what they are, i.e. a decently cheap anti-infantry weapon with one situationally very good special ability in No Escape, and they're fine. If you want generalists that you can pretty much just throw at any list and have them be functional, yeah, Kabalites are that.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
