I finally got around to playing 40K again and this has spurred me on to paint up some of the Dark Angels from the Dark Vengeance box. Mainly getting back into painting 40K stuff again before I tackle the Primaris chaps from the Dark Imperium set. Sorry the shots are a bit fuzzy in places, my camera barely survived a British summer drenching recently and it is being somewhat temperamental.

Tackling some Pox Walkers next.

Gorgeous. So gorgeous I can ignore the black-rimmed bases! Really, excellent work.

I'm an 80s guy at heart. It took all my willpower not to just drybrush sand in goblin green and sunburst yellow...

Wait, what's wrong with black-rimmed bases? I only buy/use resin bases most of the time and I will purposely paint the rims black for a more cohesive look.

Yup I have 40K miniatures from back in the 80s and while none of the coloured paints are still in production, black always matches.

I like 'em! And kudos on the black base rims. I always do bases in black. :-)

Excellent! After many decades of pure deathwing ive just started expanding the scope of my Dark Angels to include tacticals etc.

I have a quick question... how did you do the highlights on the power armour? I always seem to go too far and end up with something that is much lighter than id intended.

Thanks for your kind comments everyone.

The power armour was sprayed Caliban Green, then washed with Nuln Oil, drybrushed with caliban green again to smooth out the surfaces, drybrushed lightly with Warpstone Glow and finally edge highlighted with 50/50 Warpstone Glow/Moot Green. Nothing technical.

Personal preference, but I know I'm not in with the cool kids now I suppose. To me a black rimmed base ruins the miniature and defeats the purpose of the base of a miniature. However, that's me and my minis...so while I think black bases will ruin the overall look of the game, if you like em on your minis, go nuts.

I remember having a similar debate about black vs coloured base edges back in 1984. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose...

Nice work, you've got the right kind of Green for them which is most of the battle and everything's very neat.

I really like these. Getting back into 40k myself after, erm, 5 or so years out and I always painted my bases black. Still do as it goes!

Thanks for posting these.

Really nice and clean looking work there! Especially love the OSL from that Plasma cannon, looking forward to more.

I'm doing my own thing because it's fun. And it takes longer, which means more entertainment value for my cash. So there
