Hey guys

I already have a massive collection of Orks, and I'm looking to start another army to branch out into

I had a car accident earlier this year, shortly after losing my job, which as a 26 year old, forced me to move back in with my mother (sad I know) and with most of the compensation I'm getting, I'm giving it to her, and I'm keeping back about £500 for myself. I start a new job this month so it's kinda a celebration!

Now I don't know whether to get a fully fledged Grey knight army for that amount, or to start my death Korps off, I'll be doing both at some point, I'm just not sure in which order to do so!

Obviously if I went down the Death Korps route, I wouldn't have a playable army for about a decade unless I sell my kidney

What would you guys suggest, rules aside?

Cheers!!

Two totally different projects. If I was going Death Korps. I'd go 3rd party (plenty of other sources to get nearly identical minis) - but that's still a ton of painting and work.

Krieg! What a hole...

Bah, the main attraction of the Death Korps is their models, imo, no point in going 3rd party if its their look you're after.

I voted Grey Knights. Because they're awesome looking. Knights in space for the win!

Although in this edition we could easily be called "Storm Bolter Patrol."

I think Grey Knights are much more realistic. Getting a big enough Death Korps army is expensive and time-consuming. Getting Grey Knights would be much more quick and managable. I don't regret starting DKoK at all and would do it again given the choice, but it's been a lot of work.

GKnights! With 500 GBP you'd put together a really nice sized force of these. Easy to paint too (time wise compared to DKOK).

I voted Grey Knights because you said "rules aside" and, playstyle wise, Grey Knights will give you a MUCH different play experience to Orcs than Death Korps will I think.

Just to compare, for ~300 GBP I got 3 artillery carriages (without crew) and 3 mortar teams. Or about 270 points. DKoK is not for the faint of wallet.

I was thinking an infantry platoon, a death rider squad, and maybe a couple of artillery pieces

I have to vote Death Korp of Kreig everyday with the options presented. Have a look at the FW bundles, they give you quite a sizeable force for under 500 of the Queen's.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

I am voting gk simply as a counterpoint to your orks. Would be good to have an army you could fit into a suitcase. No dreadknights though. Things are fugly as all helle.

My vote is for Death Korps. Never know when forge world will pull models. Even if Most of the models remain they still drop some here and there. R.i.p salamander scout tanks. Etc etc

I vote the mighty Death Korps of Kreig.

Better fluff, much better models (seriously, their Death Korps Riders are simply beautiful) their crunch is top notch and their responsible for 30% of the total grimdark of 40k themselves.

In 8th edition you will kill every thing with Stormbolters -> Smites -> Assaults. So from a power gaming perspective go for Grey Knights! :-)

Make the right choice. Death Korps!

Their fluff is awesome and models fantastic! The real question is whether you will take them siege or blitzkrieg? I support both, but rock the later!

DKOK are infinitely cooler, but if you're already strapped for cash, you won't get very far with them.

I started my collection just for SWA and it cost me fortune, I'm slowly spending every dime I make now just because they are so darn cool.

GK will certainly be easier to buy, build, paint and play, but never as cool.

Well, I have a GK army but I'm not satisfied with the new edition. The army looks low-tier and I'll shelve it until better days are ahead.
