So had an idea for a fun Tyranid/GS Cult list. I think it can be competitive while still being fun and fairly straight-forward to play. Let me know what you think as I've never played with GS Cult before.

Supreme Command Detachment (GS Cult) +1 CP

1x Magus w/ Mass Hypnosis

2x Patriarch w/ Mind Control

20x Purestrain Genestealers (come in with Magus to re-roll Cult Ambush roll)

Vanguard Detachment (Tyranids) +1 CP

2x Broodlord w/ Catalyst

2x 20 Genestealers

10x Termagants w/ Fleshborers (had 40 points left over)

2x Lictors

3x Venomthropes

Pretty simple approach. The Venoms sit with the 2 Broodlords and 40 Stealers to give -1 to hit for first turn, maybe 2 if they live. Termagant can follow up as these advance or mill about near an objective. 2 Patriarchs, Magus, 20 Purestrain Stealers, and 2 lictors all show up T1 in enemy deployment zone and assault if they can, or draw fire from the other 40 Stealers running across the board. Will probably have some issues with flyers, but that's why I went with MC on Patriarchs. Maybe steal and enemy heavy now and then to try to shoot them down, or smite from Broodlords if I have to. Any C&C is appreciated.

Looks practical, but in "matched" you'll bump into the rule of one. GSC allows you to add in AM, so you can modify to taste, based on how it runs. Good luck! And good hunting!

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER

If he's facing some storm ravens then I'd still give both patriarchs Mind Control due to their random deployment and 12" range. But against other stuff, 1 each of the other two powers is a great option. Luckily you can pick powers after seeing what you're facing.

In matched it should be legal since all the models have the <Tyranids> Faction keyword. I'll double check on the Magus when I get home from work but I'm pretty sure he has it too.

It's legal. Pinecone was just pointing out that both patriarchs can't use mind control in the same turn.

Gotcha. Do you think it looks fairly competitive though? I think if I go first it looks pretty strong, but if it has to go second do you think enough will live to still put pressure on them?

Well, your broodlords will certainly live. Your opponent will either try to kill the venomthropes first or just suck up the -1 to hit and kill the genestealers. In either case, I would expect at least 1 unit of genestealers and both broodlords to survive turn 1.

The Magus doesn't let you reroll the ambush, that the Primus, who isn't a psyker. The Magus lets your cult units deny psykers and the Primus gives them +1 to hit

Could you have an army with tyranids, GSC, and astra militarum?

Yes but they have to be all separate detachments purely made up of a detachment of Tyranids, GSC, and AM. The GSC and AM of course have to be at a 1:1 ratio to each other, the tyranids you can have as many as you wanted as long as they are separate.
