Hey guys,

I'm slowly getting back into the hobby after a few years of floating around the world. Last I remember, people needed one HQ and two Troops to make an army and people were upset about the Decurion. So, I've got some catching up to do.

Since moving, I've gotten rid of a lot of my collection. I've got my Space Marines Carcharodons army and picked up the Primaris/Death Guard starter box. Looking through the rules and the various options, I'm scratching my head on list building. Last I knew, you could make a Company Command Squad with an Apoth, two Vets, a standard bearer, and a champion. Now all of those are separate options? What is the point of Primaris Leiutenants? If I really wanted Celestine leading my Primaris forces, could I make that happen without losing out on Command Points?

As much as I've read so far, I'm still scratching my head a little bit.

Most of the specialty type of units have now become separate "characters" in that they are essentially single model units. Apothecaries, Lieutenants, Captains, etc. It gives more freedom for creation of your army so they don't have to be attached at the hip to a squad. Lieutenants and other HQ choices are nice to have since they aren't necessarily amazing but they are a low point HQ comparatively to other HQ choices. This comes into play when you are designing your list. Most every detachment you take will require at least a HQ choice. So if you want to have a few Fast Attack choices in an Outrider detachment, you'll need a HQ with it as well as any other detachment. If you are looking at saving some points, units like Lieutenants are nice in that they aren't going to be too expensive for your "HQ tax" required for your detachment.

You would actually have the basic Imperium keyword, so you would still have bonus command points. You start with your basic 3 for being Battle Forged or whatever, and then X number based on the detachments you take.

As it stands now, yes army composition is much more diverse and loosely applied. Characters are predominantly single model units and each take up an HQ spot, etc. There are no more command squads, but it doesn't stop you from taking all of them. If anything they benefit from being solo since they can't be targeted most of the time. It also lets your "command squad" disperse over the battlefield which is probably a bit more realistic anyway.

2 HQ / 3 Troops is now as simple as ANY two HQ models (can be Apothecaries, Techmarines, etc.) and any three troops. This actually helps in smaller games since you can take quite cheap command units in place of having to take a loaded out Captain or Chapter Master, etc.

You can run Caelestine in your marine army, as they both share the "Imperial" keyword, but as codexes are coming out, you'll start getting bonus rules for keeping your detachments more specific. For space marines, youll want everything in your detachment to have the "Chapter" keyword (in your case, space sharks), which means all the units in that detachment gain their Chapter Tactics special rule (space sharks, you can pick whatever you want.... iunno, black templars maybe).
You can still run Caelestine in a seperate detachment though, but that's something youll have to consider when putting your army together.

And Celestine works ridiculously well in a small sisters detachment because of how acts of faith work at the moment. Grab two units of some kind of sister and make a detachment for her.
