Hi got me SM dex today and whilst I like the look of the primaris characters both rules and models in particular but being a traditionalist I kinda have it in my head that ancients apothecarys and so forth should be in a command squad with a captain but can't really do that with primaris! I'm thinking of having veterans with a lieutenant and chaplain and company champion in a land raider and then using the primaris equivalent in the rest of the army. Where do they go though? Chaplain would be great in the reivers but he can't deep strike!

Please help

Put them in a Repulsor with a unit. Lowers the amount of drops you have during deployment too.

Basically your options are on foot or in a repulsor.

I prefer having my characters walk. They give out useful auras and make people around them more effective.

That said, I don't think I'd use a chaplain. A captain just does more for Primaris, all of whom are shooting units. Reivers are the one exception to that, but as noted characters can't go with them.

The Chaplain feels like the worse one. basically pointless as there is no true dedicated CC unit besides half of the aggressors kit meaning captain would be better to buff both of there attacks.

Are there any units certain characters are better with? For example the gravis captain seems to fit nicely with the aggressors.

The repulsor is such an awkward fit. It bothers me. I like my squads in multiples of 5, I'm not ditching a hellblaster to fit characters in an expensive vehicle. Razorbacks come with an extra space, rhinos are cheap.

I think it's fine to have a captain run alongside a repulsor. He shouldn't be shot and will buff its shooting too.

I usually put my guys in a Repulsor to start, then when they disembark something else gets in. So typically I will have a Captain, Lieutenant, Apothecary, and Ancient in (If the Captain is not Gravis then a Librarian is good as well) then some other 5 man squad. Doesn't really matter. In my first turn of movement the characters get out to run up the field with my Hellblasters and a screen of Intercessors, and the Repulsor is ferrying two 5 man Intercessor units towards objectives . I don't use Aggressors, but if you took the flamer ones then I can see the Chaplain being useful... otherwise I would never take him.

Stuffing a repulsor full of characters to help get first turn does seem like a pretty solid tactic to me. It's certainly good to have the option of doing so. You can always have your guys jump out and start giving their buffs as soon as turn 1 begins.

It isnt as necessary anymore with the new match play rules only giving you a +1 if you finish first.

and having a few low impact deployments can give you some better options to counter deploy something the opponent does.

It is more the option to do so. If I'm not worried about the number of drops I'll usually start my 10 Hellblasters inside to prevent them being alpha struck, and then still just disembark them and replace them with the Intercessors after.
