Hey guys,

So I'm slowly learning 8th and I'm getting into the Dark Imperium, building up the models and getting them ready for priming. I'm having more fun than I would have expected with the Primaris, but I was wondering...

What kits are people adding on to make solid, tight-knit armies for the Primaris? More Hellblasters? Redemptors? Primaris Librarians? What are people picking up to expand on the Dark Imperium set?

I started with Dark Imperium's Primaris half. I got the "First Strike" starter to split with a friend, which is another 3 intercessors and 3 Reivers. I got a couple more Intercessors to finish the unit of 5 from the single-model "Getting Started" pack and a trade with a friend for one extra marine. Adding a box of Reivers, I made 5 with melee kit to match the First Strike Reivers for a unit of 8 and 5 with jump packs/carbines kit. Adding a Dreadnought and an Apothecary to that comes to just under 1500 points. It's pretty well-rounded, you can fit that into several formations (I run Battalion and Vanguard) and I like that it's fully Primaris. My strategy isn't ideal, in the end I only really ended up saving on getting another Intercessors box or another character, but I thought that my path might help offer some insight.

Jambles - I seem to be following a similar path! I went and got the 'Getting Started' set too, but realized that you can't make a squad of 3 Reivers, so I'll probably pick up a box of them. I'm seeing good things about them as a unit, so making two small units, or at least one full 10-man should be good. I also got a Dreadnought, Apothecary, Chaplain, and Librarian, so my choices for HQ should be nice and varied.

I was thinking about getting another squad of Hellblasters instead of the Intercessors to fill out the army. I don't really see myself getting one of those big Repulsor tanks, but I'd happily get a second Dreadnought!

Know No Fear is a good second buy if you want a lot of forces. See if you can split the contents with someone. You basically get the Dark Imperium stuff minus the small characters and one squad of Intercessors.

On a note for First Strike: Overall the contents are roughly 1/2 of the cost of the individual "easy build" sets, but that's if you use the entire contents of the box. If you have some use for the 3 Intercessors and someone willing to take the DG models, then it's a good buy. Otherwise a box of actual Reivers is cheaper in the long run.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I think that a good starting point is the Librarian (The same price as the regular Libby for some reason, awesome), hellblasters, and a repulsor for them to ride in. The hardest thing for primaris (Other than multi-wound weapons) is anti-tank. An 8 man squad of hellblasters with a captain and an ancient riding in a double las repulsor is a great firebase to build the rest of your list around. Plus there's that great anniversary captain in mk x armour with the plasma pistol and power fist is a great addition to the force.

The Lieutenants are awesome.

And the Angels of Darkness descended on pinions of fire and light... The great and terrible Dark Angels.

I bought a box of intercessors, so I can pad the intercessor squads out to two 10 man squads. then I'll proably buy some hellblasters

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Yeah, I'm noticing that anti-tank seems to be the trouble, but anti-horde is also a problem for Primaris-only forces. It's like, unless you're going up against other Marines, you're probably going to have some trouble.

How do you get the anniversary captain?

Anti Horde is NOT a problem. Between dakka dread,s dakka repulsors, and agressors, primaris marines have some pretty scary anti horde.

For my primaris I traded the death guard stuff for a 2nd set of primaris marines, thhough I mostly just use the 2nd set of hellblasters. I added in Guilliman, 2 repulsors, a librarian, and 2 redemptor dreadnaughts. This list has very few models but plenty of shooting and with the reroll it's shooting is devastating, a psycher, and plenty of assault capabilities.

Blood for the bloo... wait no, I meant for Sanguinius!

I think at this point I'm going to start with the Dark Imperium, a Redemptor Dreadnought, and a Librarian and see how that does me.

I got a Chaplain and an Apothecary that I'll play around with, but it'll probably be small point games until I get 8th down. I can see myself getting another couple 5-mans of Hellblasters and maybe a box of Reivers to bring the army closer to 75 points, and then a Repulsor and another Redemptor up to 100.
