Confirmed on FB that the next PrintableScenery.com kickstarter is going live within the next 24 hours. The theme this time of the 3d printable kickstarter is:

Gothic Cathedral and Gothic Industrial.

I will update the thread as soon as the kickstarter is live with a link and more details upon it launching.

Here is a preview shot from FaceBook.

Really like what these guys are doing. Even though not everyone has access to a 3D printer, they seem to be doing really well. Great idea and works great for Kickstarter, they don't have to worry about any production headaches or need to bring in tons of cash to afford all that stuff, they just make a 3D file and the backers can download it easy peasy.

I was hoping to see more western buildings. Hoping some day they do a whole wild west campaign.

I'm interested not because I need grimdark stuff like this but because it would be cool to print out a giant cathedral.

Generally Matt designs things to be printed on the smaller bed printers that you can get for around $150-$200. Those will print at the same quality as most other printers until you hit the $800+ price range.

Monkeysloth - Well this is going to be 'OpenLock Rampage' so again everyone with even a small print bed printer will be able to print out the 'tiles'. My understanding is that the 'tiles' will be put together with 'OpenLock' clips and male/female connectors built into the tops/bottoms of the tiles.

Matt does have a large Medieval Church (ruined and un-ruined versions available) from a revious kickstarter. I do not know whether he will include it in any add-on packages to this kickstarter, but I can tell you having printed out the Church in scales of 15mm, 25mm, 32mm, and even a 40mm version for customers it looks awesome and it is huge when the parts (not 'OpenLock' by the way) are put together.

As one of the 'Licenced Printers' of Matt's PrintableScenery.com designs from what I have seen this is likely to be the biggest kickstarter yet for the 3d print files.

It seems that the Kickstarter has been delayed by 24 hours and will now launch tomorrow.

Will post more news as I get it.

I'm not a 100% fan of the OpenLock style of connecting things, but this looks like a potentially interesting and useful kickstarter.

Stretch Goals #'s 5 & 6 are now unlocked.

Looks like this is going to be PrintableScenery's biggest KS yet.

Great looking Gothic designs and still Dwarven designs to come.

UPDATE

Stretch Goal #7 now unlocked.

UPDATE #2 (on this post)

Stretch goals #'s 8 and 9 were unlocked overnight.

Currently at NZ $29,361, and the 10th stretch goal unlocks at NZ $30k, so not far away I think.

Having not done much 3D printing, can someone give me a rundown of how much it would cost to print something like the cathedral?

Hi schoon, I have NO access to the files yet but looking at it as a licenced printer for PrintableScenery I am guessing to do it as shown will be between 1 and 2 reels of 1kg filament (nearer 1 than 2 though) and including floors and roof and printing for 28mm at a resolution of 150 microns. Given that in the US good filament can be bought for under $20 a reel then you are looking at a price range estimate of $20 - $40. Of course if you decide to print 32mm scale then it will cost more and this will then be $30 - $40 is my GUESS (depends on the figures really you play with which scale you choose).

(EDIT TO ABOVE - Just checked with Matt at Printable Scenery and he agrees. )

Also,

Stretch Goal #10 has been unlocked.

Well stretch goal #11 is unlocked and we are only a couple of backers away from #12 being unlocked, this as is normal with PrintableScenery.com KS campaigns is well thought out and gives a fantastic amount of product designs for the pledge.

From yesterdays comments on the kickstarter by Matt of PrintableScenery was the folling little gem:-

"...there will be a mix of classic dwarven and steampunk in the upcoming stretch goals"

Now that is something that will be music to the thousands of Dwarf players around the world.

Currently the pledge level is at NZ$ 35,779, that is just NZ$ 221 away from unlocking stretch goal #12. (The stretch goals are currently spaced at NZ$ 3,000 apart.)

(This is certainly christmas time for 3d printer enthusiasts on kickstarter.)

Also some new images have been published of the proposed close up detail of the Cathedral designs.

I like those buildings a lot , but I don't own a 3d printer.
How much would cost a printer able to print with a quality similar to what is pictured on the project page ?

Well not really a surprise I guess at this stage but stretch goal # 14 has unlocked and now approaching unlocking stretch goal # 15.

There are also 4 new stretch goals announced:

NZ$ 51,000 ..... Cathedral Ruins

NZ$ 54,000 ..... Industrial Ruins

NZ$ 57,000 ..... Demon Buttresses

NZ$ 60,000 ..... Dwarven Windows

Also announced yesterday was one of the upcoming 'add-ons' (which will be added to the campaign in this coming week).

The 'Necromacer Tower'

This kickstarter is looking better and better all the time.

@Samko - Printers come in all shapes and sizes (literally both are true there). Every person who 3d prints seems to have their own favourite make and model, but at the moment we use as our 3d printer workhorses the Prusa i3 Mk2 and Mk2S. These cost from 665 - 900 Euros from Prusa3d.com (depending on whether you buy the kit to make or a ready made printer). Another printer that seems to be gaining in popularity is the Creality cr-10, this comes as a so-called 'kit' (about 10 bolts and screws and some wires to literally 'plug in' to electrical connectors). These have a bigger print volume, even the 'S3' model, and this is cheaper than the Prusa i3 Mk2S. (Shop around to find your local best price though.)

There are loads of other makes of 3d printer available some cheaper and some more expensive than these two printers, but if you can only recommend the Prusa from personal experience and the Creality from recomendations I have received from other experienced printers I personally know.

(One thing to avoid is very cheap Chinese Prusa i3 clones (I do not include the 'Wanhao' series in this as they seem to havae lifted their game tremendously and are now getting good write ups, but I have absolutely no experience of them personally or by personal recommendation).

PrintableScenery.com use the Prusa's to do their prints by the way. Hope this helps.

BrianDavion - Remember that even if you do not have a 3d printer and have no intention of getting one all is not lost. You will still be able to get these models when they become available from the PrintableScenery 'Licenced Printers'.

And stretch goal # 15 (Demon Walls) has just unlocked .

Next stretch goal is the 'Dwarven Tribute Wall'.

Thanks for the answer, it helps a lot.

Concerning the KS, can the doors parts be opened ?
And do you plan on doing a bigger cathedral door (and rose window) for a proper main entrance ?

I have messaged Matt at PrintableScenery.com and asked him. On the question about the 'Doors' he has replied 'Yes, they will be able openable'.

On the question about bigger cathedral doors and rose window he hasn't commented one way or the other (yet), perhaps he is being a little coy and we will have to wait and see what is added in the next 14 days. (Cannot blame him really for being coy, he would undoubtedly have the kickstarter all planned out and a flow chart of when new things will be released.)

Lysenis wrote:If I had a 3d printer...

There are presently 6 PrintableScenery.com 'Licenced Printers'. There are 3 in the USA, 1 in Canada, 1 in France, and of course us in the UK. So as said above all is not lost for those who do not have a 3d printer or do not plan on getting one.

There are also some rather nice 'Bonus Items' for those backing at the 'All-in' pledge level.

Hi Samko, If you go onto the PrintableScenery.com website and click any of the models it will take you to the page for that model. On that page on the right is a button saying 'Get it Printed' (next to the 'add to cart' button). Simply click on that button and a dropdown list will appear with the 'licenced printers listed and where they are located. Click on the names on the list and it will take you through to their website. (And yes ours is deplorable and all the other 5 websites are better than ours - ATM. But that will change very soon. )

All the licenced printers are independent by the way, so check out them, especially if you are in the USA as there are 3 there. (And 'NO' I will not recommend one of them over another before anyone asks, that would be totally unfair IMO.)

Hope this helps.
