Subject: beradical's Hobby Blog - New Blood Angels - September Armor stuff!
Hey all, name's Brad...call me Brad (that'll work).
So, in 1993 my Father and I were at a shopping mall in England (I was born/raised there) and we passed a store called 'Games Workshop'. I loved what I saw and somehow I either convinced my Dad, or he thought it was pretty cool himself because we drove home with my first box set.
Spoiler:
As you can see, I never did build the Orks as a kid...most of them are on sprues still (one day, eh?)
Spoiler:
Anyway, Warhammer 40k has always been forced to split my attention with various other hobbies of mine over the years. I had a brief fun time with Warmachine / Hordes also, although currently own nothing for that game anymore. (Loved it, just had choices)
December 21, 2016 a drunk driver rear ended me at over 100. 10 screws and 2 plates later I have been on the mend for almost a month and a half now from 2 spine surgeries. Just before the accident (September, Nov [2016]., etc.) I was starting to think about 100% consolidating all my other hobbies and sticking to my miniatures; I'm married now, let's get real and be responsible and fully enjoy not JUST one thing entirely...but at least put the main focus there. <--- been a struggle for a while, haha
So since last December I've had a lot of time for a lot of things and it's been all about Warhammer and Wargaming pretty much. I'm happy to start sharing it with everyone. Wife and I have a new house, of about one year, that was nice enough to have a workbench area in the basement. It's a neat little space and I enjoy being down there. Unfortunately, since my surgeries I haven't been able to sit at my stool down there, so my Wife helped me setup this temporary setup in our computer room.
I do, of course, hope everyone likes the kinda stuff I'll post that I'm doing daily / weekly (we'll see how things go)...but if you don't care for the stuff I'm doing I fully appreciate your opinion. I just would like to keep happy, stay happy, and paint as much as I can while I can (so I can keep improving!).
As of this first post I'm currently painting this Dante for the forum painting gig! I do have about 2000 maybe 2500 points total of 90% dark eldar, and 10% ynnari / aeldari, but I have decided to focus on my Blood Angel army, that I decided to make after I had had my surgeries. (I fell in love with the fact it was THE new releases of an edition, and aesthetically I really DIG the Primaris Marines, and from the Novels I have read in the past and short stories...I am fascinated with the Blood Angels, so that's how I ended that mental debate.)
I have a lot of other models ready and waiting in boxes to continue to grow this Blood Angels army. In a way I'm doing this blog as a nice motivator to keep on track with projects...and as the title says: most likely some Dark Eldar also...and whatever the heck else I'm doing.
Gonna be building terrain in the future also! -- I am going to try my VERY best to be an active Hobby Blog, and use it as a kick to get stuff done!
Currently working on a Dante for the Dakka site paint challenge for August, and just building up the numbers of my Blood Angels army. It's about 10 pm, my time, at the moment. I will post some WIP of what I have going on tonight in maybe 2-3 hours (depends how carried away I get...I'll try for sooner ).
UPDATE: In the meantime while I paint...check out my first EVER model I painted when I was 6 years old:
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here is what Commander Dante CURRENTLY looks like:
I must say I'm not happy with how fast and sloppy i went on the wing areas (was waaaay too tired one night)...AND the fact I went straight white scar right off the bat...but no worries he's going to be looking tip top in no time! - Everything did seem to be going way better until I tackled his wing symbols and white parts with super watery white at like 4am :(
I also built almost all of the Dark Imperium box (Primaris side) since....Friday afternoon, so I feel I have been productive! (nevermind random Rievers and blue plastic Intercessor) :
One last thing for the night...my gaming mat came so I'm going to be doing some kind of project to make it into 2' x 2' tiles. :

Quick update (Monday 8/29 1:30pm): Just posted this exact post as an update into the August painting challenge....figured I'd update the blog, also.
Still NOT finished, but going to be taking a small break for a few hours.
Basically I still have to get the base shaded and drybrushed the way I want it, touch up a few things here and there, and then attempt the lightning on the axe. yea... "that's all!"
I have a Nikon D3200 DSLR and I'm still trying to catch the best pictures I can...they don't seem to be cutting it. I'm going to do a bit more trial and error to improve my picture quality for the finished post.
Speaking of finished post, I should be posting it up later to finally be done...just had to post this now since I gotta run and I've been in the zone on this duuuude. Chuggin away at it, love it.
Enjoy, Talk to ya later all

New picture is better, and I can see a lot more details of Dante than the first pics. Looking good so far and I hope to see more progress coming. Hope your back heals up well and doesn't give you too many problems down the road. I've never had back surgery, but have injured mine plenty and some times just sitting is a problem.
For better pics you may want to check the Articles tab up by the top of the page and then read the tutorials there. I know my lighting set up is terrible for pics, but there's a few tweaks that make huge improvements to photos. Also I just use my iPhone or iPad mini for pics, so I can't give any regular advice on the camera end of it.
Looking forward to more .

Appreciate the insight. Yea I really need to figure out all the settings and stuff. Then I forget to turn off the lights in the room or something, lol.
About to sit down again and not stop til he's done (for me anyways).
Definitely hope to have it posted in decent time then I'm moving onto some troops!
Again folks, I'll get the camera and photo situation taken care of as fast as I can. I understand the quality of the photo's is imperative. I'm new to blogging, but I am a fast learner!

I've recently been building up a Redemptor Dreadnought (very slowly), and I want to keep getting some stuff painted. So I'm gonna TRY and see how doing both goes...there is always time between letting glue dry or letting a layer dry, etc. .
Had to take these 2 small WIP pictures with my iPhone 6 because my camera battery is on the charger.
Dreadnought so far (as said, early days):
Intercessor squad #1 for my next painting victim (will be putting Lustrian undergrowth on the other 4 before painting):
I'll update later with what I get done of either or both.

Depends on if you can juggle both assembly and painting. I usually have to do one or the other. I've begun to learn to treat myself by saying I can build xyz if I finish painting abc. You could always reverse it if you painting more than building.
