GA! I'm very excited to get back into this all.
As stated in my
OP my previous collection was painted very badly and I am looking to take a very steady pace this time, do you have any general tips on painting and what to buy?
Sure, I can give you some general pointers:
- Rule no. 1 when it comes to painting is to use a palette, and to thin your paints. It means that the paint applies much more smoothly on the model, and you can keep control of the paint on your brush too. You can use a wet palette (which you can
make yourself, or purchase on the net), or thin paints manually with a regular palette - whichever feels more comfortable.
- Follow and watch the painting tutorials done on
WarhammerTV. I cannot recommend these enough, as they helped take my painting to the next level (even my old gallery is not up to par with my skills now

). The techniques used there are very easy to replicate with a little practice and can help you produce Tabletop + level models in no time.
They even have some tutorials on painting Space Wolves (
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=warhammer+tv+space+wolves), which will also give you some guidance on what paints you might need, so get cracking!
- Don't be afraid if you screwed up your models - paint stripping can be very easy and can help you go back to a clean model to try again, or to help you experiment with new advanced techniques that may not have paid off first time round. I did a tutorial a year or so ago on using
Isopropyl Alcohol to paint strip, and I highly recommend you pick up a bottle or two to give you a backup if things don't come out to your liking, or to even revive some of your old projects that were gathering dust in the garage.
Hopefully that's given you stuff to work with; my
PM is always open if you want to ask questions, or alternatively you can jump onto the P&M forum and ask there to get a more community wide answer
Happy hunting!
EDIT: I missed the bit you mentioned about priming - you'll have to forgive my sleepiness

I would personally recommend Army Painter's matte black primer, as you get more for your buck, and the finish is just as good as using Citadel's.
GW also offer a spray paint in the colour of
The Fang, which you can apply over a black primer to complete the stage of painting the base armour of the Space Wolves very quickly and easily.
