2 detachments intended as an all-comers list. The biggest change for me is no Razorbacks or troops of any kind. For infantry-heavy opponents the WG on bikes can put out a lot of shots, the Long Fangs can fire frag, and there's a lot of plasma. For monsters & vehicles I think there's enough to deal with them. Strong shooting & strong CC but small elite force, 8 drops which as around how many the SW battalion I've been playing has. Bjorn rerolls 1s for the Spearhead, plasma incinerators on overcharge. For units in common with the new SM codex I'm using the codex values as per this: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/07/22/the-other-angels-of-death-and-codex-space-marines/?fref=gc

Any feedback on this welcomed.

Vanguard 1025 pts.

Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor

You have very little anti infantry though. Only 4 frag missiles and 5 bikes. Even wulfen, bjorn and terminator have high S weapons. I'd ditch the hellblasters or the predator in order to take other bikers/long fangs with missiles.

I would drop the plasma from the bikes(switch to stormbolters) and the hellblasters and add another long fang squad and if points permit a scout squad with a heavy weapon.

With your build i worry that you have too few numbers(your too elite) but your force composition is a bit all over.

If you are gonna take CC termies i dont think you should take wulfen. If you take wulfen you should take 10!

10 Wulfen is something I've been thinking about. Bought them, might as well use all of them. Also have enough painted Long Fangs for 2 squads with ML. I'm still pretty new to the game, this is just an idea I was kicking around. I've been doing ok with 1 battalion detachment. 2 detachments for no real reason may not be the best way to go. Haven't even put the terminators on the table yet.

For the points you use, there is most definitely a reason for 2 detachments and that is cp points! even in a friendly more cp means easier use of cp especially when the sw codex comes out.

But if playing alot of casual, then i would suggest you stick with a certain core to your list and every game swap out or modify 1 part until you have used all your models so you yourself can get a good feel for what does what well or doesnt!

Then the changes you make will start to make your list more and more refined against the types of lists you commonly play against!

In some ways this is the more fun way to do it, but you'll probably lose alot more!! but since its friendly games anyway who cares!

I cant quite do that at my club as there are too many tourny players and casual games can lead to a lot of bad habits.

I get more CP with the 1 detachment battalion list I've been playing (3CP+3CP+1CP for Bjorn) but thanks. Have played several versions of that (Bjorn, Razorbacks, Grey Hunters, Wulfen as the "core") one. The biggest reason I made that list is the spearhead. 3 heavy support units sounds like fun. I'm testing the effectiveness of Hellblasters too so they are in the posted list.

I would look at using the battalion detachment as the core of your army. Then add either vanguard, outrider, or spearhead detachments depending on what you wanna try out.

This would give you more command points(3 for battleforged,3 for battalion, 1 for any of aforementioned detachments, and 1 for Bjorn) and I feel more balance. The only real tax is getting that extra HQ per detachment.

As for wulfen a squad of 10 is great but can become a bit of a points sink. A squad of 5 can still be threatening. The ability to advance and charge is huge. Also rerolling to wound with claws, throw a wolf lord nearby and you get to reroll 1's to hit too!

Wolf guard on bikes are not my preference but I'd go with more shots as to higher strength to help with infantry. If you're worried few models maybe look into swiftclaws.

I love my long fangs and can't say enough good things. Personally I like running two squads half las half missile per squad.

Hope this helps.

I've gone back to my battalion list, with some changes, based on the feedback here, for the time being. The Wolf Lord has TH/SS but that's all I have modeled right now and won't have time to change that before my game tomorrow morning. I will revisit the spearhead in the near future. Thanks for the help, brothers.

Two quick things, first is more preference. Wolf lord comes stock with a 4++ from belt of Russ, so I kit him with a set of claws. Though 3++ can make a huge difference and WYSIWYG does make life easier.

Second meltagun on the LF pack leader just seems out of place. Generally I've found he'll never be in range for it and I usually take him off first when removing models to keep my heavy weapons firing.

Otherwise super solid looking list. Happy hunting!
