Facing Nyds for the first time soon and wonder what an average composition will look like.

Mostly interested in quantity of multi wound high T models and Flyers including any <Fly> keyword.
As I'm currently spreading out small and large AA across units plus running an Interceptor equipped to deal with flyers I wouldn't want for all those points to go to waste as i'm running a points heavy BT list.

Well it depends on how they build it. Nids don't really have a single list they can use. They can be mostly flyers, mostly big baddies, mostly small horde models, almost all CC, almost all ranged, and any combination in between. They have an extremely diverse range of styles.

Tyranids air units are pretty lacklustre. There's no flyers at all, the only things with the fly keywords to ever look out for are hive tyrants and harpies and they aren't particularly threatening. Nids usually are melee focused based around Genestealers - fast, highly damaging with a 5+ invuln making them hard to shift

I don't think you're going to have problems with Flyer spam.

You should expect to be in CC on the first 'nid turn. Probably expect to see the Swarmlord pushing Genestealers forward, and a Trygon full of hormies or more genestealers.

Bubble wrap is a must. What are you bringing to the match?

Froth at the top, dregs at the bottom, but the middle - excellent

Thanks, will probably leave the Interceptor home and get a Thunderfire cannon, as I'll probably go first but won't be able to charge it could be useful to slow down a fast unit with the Tremor Shell Stratagem.

Bringing my usual core of LRC with Helbrecht and 2x7 man squads with 4 P.Swords at S5, will probably discard the Meltas on the special slot but keep the MM on LRC.
2 Rhinos with double S.Bolters carrying 9 Crusaders each with Axes and Flamers, and a Chaplain (possibly Grimaldus as I'll be down on points) with the Emperor's Wrath Relic.
Predator with 2 Lascannons and Pred Autocannon, babysitted by a Ven Dreadnought with Twin Lascannon and Fist/H.Flamer possibly using his Stratagem rerolling 1s for both.
Vanguard Vets with 3 Hammers/Shields and 6 points Cenobytes to make the Vanguard det.
Since a TC seems a better choice than the Interceptor I'll deploy my highly effective Techmarine usually deployed with the LRC with it instead.
Will also leave the EC home as I'm unlikely to gain access to any HQs.

Bubble wrapping is never an option for me as I'm always moving forward bar 2 models.

The trick against nids is to advance a lot. Get in range and shoot them. And then you can charge them afterwards. Their units are very flimsy.

Just advance and shoot and charge, and you will be fine.

Pretty well balanced and hard to predict.
They have a lot of options so just the prospect of facing an unknown Nid list demands an all round response.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Only problem I can't do that, should I concede going first? is he able to charge right away given a 24" gap?

It really does not matter who'm of you who goes first. The fun starts when he gets into your weapon range. One of you will table the other.

Of course if you have superior range with a lot of long ranged weapons you wanne go first.

Nids internal balance is amazing since 8th. Many latched onto genestealers but a bunch of people have built very powerful lists that dont use them at all.

Yes, a nid list that wants to be in melee can easily and very reliably have you in combat turn 1 despite a 24" gap.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Thanks all for the info, will probably go lighter on upgrades and more bodies on the ground, even tempted to leave the Rhinos and run large Crusader squads on foot, could make for an epic game

You should not take my comments seriusly, I was jesting with you.

In very rare surcimstances should you advance on nids. Most of their range is short and all of their units are between descent to very good in close combat. See if you can find a way to play the objective without having to come to them. Nids naturally want to be in CC with you.

Shoot and fall back, rince and repeat.

Little update: I've won by some margin even thought I was facing 40 buffed Genestealers charging first

Good to hear. Hope you enjoyed it. Genestealers are always fun. :-)

Yea lot's of Combat which suits my chainswords well, had to commit heresy and fall back with the Crusaders left and shoot them with the LRC.

Nids definitely need their new codex. Genestealers are great, but the big bugs are overcosted/underpowered. Gaunts are right down there with Guardians.
