So I've always been a bit obsessed (to put it mildly) with building tactical SMs equipped with a bolter, a pistol and some kind of CCW. With the classic marines, unless a chainsword was held in hand, there was really almost no way to stick it on without it looking out of place.

With Primaris however there's more room to play. So i decided to attach a chainsword from the Burning of Prospero set to the belt of this Inceptor. I think it fits pretty well. What do you think? Too Liefildian? Or just right?

I think it looks quite at home on the primaries. Nice work.

Thanks. I went ahead and stuck the swords on an entire squad. Came out better than I thought it would.

Too bad Dark Imperium hellblasters wear the pistol on the left hip, which makes this impossible... I might have to sell the DI squad and buy a multipart one...

Can't you attach them to the backpack, like the combat knives on the mkiv squad?

Nope, not enough room, ends up looking janky.

Looks ok to me, doesn't seem too cluttered.
I wouldn't recommend chainswords on hellblasters, stick with combat knives. The plasma is too bulky for it and from a narrative view it's better to keep the fire support aspect as the focal point.

Oddly enough, I actually have combat knives on my Dark Imperium HBs, and they fit just fine. I went halfway mad trying to fit the chainswords on them and just gave up.

But I got the HB combat squad today, and put together one of the chaps... had to use a pistol from a different kit and put it on his right hip, then trimmed the pistol off the "hellblaster belt luggage", and fit the chainsword on the right hip with minimal filing.

Totally get what you're saying though. If I may go on a tangent here:

- My Primaris army will be purely a display piece as I don't play anymore (too antisocial to leave the house most days, much less play with other people). So since it will be only a display thing for my own amusement, I have the luxury of not giving a toss about the legality of it, and building whatever looks cool. I've decided that my infantry will consist of 2 Intercessor squads and 1.5 Hellblaster squads. The twist here (say it in M. Night Shamalyan's voice: WHAT A TWIST!) is that the Intercessor squads will consist of 6 boltermen (counting the sarge) and 4 hellblasters with assault plasma. The full HB squad will have regular plasma, and the last half-squad will have heavy plasma.

My thinking is that the everyone (boltermen and HBs) in the Intercessor squads will have chainswords (since they will be more likely to get close and personal with the enemy) and the pure HB squads "might" have knives, since they are meant to hang back and focus on blasting.

Or maybe my OCD will take over and I'll need to have a chainsword on everyone. Who knows.
