Hi guys! I tried the Land Rider the other day, I ve waited for a for fun game because I thought it was a really really weak model, but now I have complex feelings about it... how are your experiences with it?
Basically is like puttin a Predator and a Rhino together, and it's able to do both because of the machine spirit... and maybe, in the long term it shoots much more than the predator because of is protection (while the laser predator can be easily one shotted by another 4 lasers). Another thing that bothers me is the transport capacity, it can carry only 5 terminators with no room for a HQ, you could disembark the terminator in circle 7' from the enemy and teleport the HQ at the center of the circle, but then it's difficult to charge because you risk to leave the Character exposed.
What do you think?

For Chaos, best use of a land raider is to fill it with berzerkers and maybe one or two characters (in power armor). The melee impact is much more than if you use terminators. (Or just two squads of 5 berserkers each, because each World Eater champion can hit 8 times with his power fist).

Terminators can already deep strike to 9.1 inches, and with icon of wrath, they even get a reroll to charge. They honestly don't need to sit in a LR.

Either that, or two havoc squads filled with plama guns. So that when you disembark, you empty 16 plasma shots at 12 inch double tap range. (Or if you have the points, give the champs combi plasmas and make that 20 plasma shots when you disembark. lol)

Yeah, that's a couple of good ideas, I actually forgot about the 2 squads mechanic, but the question is... comparing to the rhino, does it worth the points? Ofc the land is more solid, but is more than 4 times the cost, and with smoke the rhino is quite durable

Well, its a decision only you can make. Depends on what the rest of your list is, and how much heavy guns your opponent is packing. What I know is that if you pack 10 havocs with 10 plasma guns into a LR, it will be a huge target for sure, just like if you pack the same thing into a Rhino.

The resilience of a LR compared to a Rhino is two very different things though. One is t8 with 16 wounds and a 2+ save. The other is T7, 10 wounds with a 3+ save. Precisely because the LR is so much more expensive in points, that why whatever you put into it better be worth it.

yeah, it's better to have a land rider if you want to transport some glass cannons like havocs or berzerker, otherwise they are not gonna last long in the rhino

Land Raider ist not worth the points. For 350 you can get three razorback with twin lascan each. Or other weapons. The razorback is quite flexible when it comes to weapons choices. A Land Raider is a bullet magnet, razorback not so much. Three razorback have 30 wounds and can carry 18 models.

Spoken like a true Imperial.

Where's my Chaos Razorback?

Death Guard - "The Rotmongers"
Chaos Space Marines - "The Sin-Eaters"
Dark Angels - "Nemeses Errant"
Deathwatch

I've loved my Chaos raider in the few games I've used it in. It makes a very nice fire support centerpiece to move up with an assault line (I use spawn, dreads, maulers, etc) and carry some berserkers + apostle inside. I also like to exploit it's strong shooting and durability by loading it with a combimelta and havok launcher.
However, it is a pricey pickle and needs lots of other threats to support it. It's durable, but certainly not invincible. I only bring it for 2000pt or higher games, otherwise it becomes too much of a lynchpin.

I have only ran a Chaos one a single time. I put Plague Marines in it simply because that's what I had. I second the opinions stated elsewhere here though... a Land Raider is only worth it if you are transporting fragile units, or something that can't get around otherwise. I play Imperium mostly, and I only ever take Assault Centurions in mine. For Chaos things I would consider would be Berserkers, Possessed, and maybe Chosen. Another option would be taking two small objective holders, and drive them to midfield objectives to get out. This way you are utilizing the transport function without risking it getting tied up in melee.

If you want a large tank like thing that's hard to kill, I'd recommend the Storm Eagle. Or fire raptor if you don't want the transport capacity
