That's my secret goal - somehow make the shields give +1 save and count the faux-lorica segmentata as flak armour. That way, 4+ save units with shotguns can be vets, and 5+ save units with shotguns can also be vets. We'll see!

Inquistion acolytes guys, they are totally bad ass for an inquisition force imo.

I thought so too! But inquisiton has fewer shotguns than guard, fewer good saves than guard, and doesn't have very many options. The actual acolytes are kind of bad (8ppm for a guardsman?) and to bring options to the army you essentially end up with a few acolytes, an inquisitor, and then a whole bunch of other stuff.

I mean you could also play them as ministorum crusaders if some have shields, but again, shotguns...

I mentioned that in my OP.

The problem is you can't build an army around Crusaders. You can just bring 2000 points of crusaders... but that's just dumb, if I may say so.
