After swearing off 40k, I played a game of 8th to appease a friend. GW brought back the fun for me that I have been missing since Rouge Trader. Now I am trying to put together a list with models that I have been able to beg/borrow from him. Looking to see if this list will be a decent "good against most" list. As you will probably be able to tell, using mostly Dark Vengance models for the army.

Outrider Detachment +1CP (Imperium - Dark Angels) [75 PL, 1500pts]

**Sammael in Sableclaw [11 PL, 216pts]
(using a Land Speeder represent the unit)

**Scout Squad [6 PL, 90pts]
Camo cloak
4x Scout
-Sniper rifle
Scout Sergeant
-Sniper rifle
(Using Tactaical Marines to represent the uning)

**Deathwing Terminators [12 PL, 245pts]
Deathwing Sergeant
-Storm Bolter & Power Sword
Deathwing Terminator x2
-Power fist, Storm bolter
Deathwing Terminator
-Chainfist, Storm bolter
Deathwing Terminator
-Assault cannon, Power fist

**Deathwing Terminators [12 PL, 245pts]
Deathwing Sergeant
-Storm Bolter & Power Sword
Deathwing Terminator x2
-Power fist, Storm bolter
Deathwing Terminator
-Chainfist, Storm bolter
Deathwing Terminator
-Assault cannon, Power fist

**Ravenwing Attack Bike Squad [6 PL, 148pts]
Ravenwing Attack Bike x2
-Multi-melta

**Ravenwing Attack Bike Squad [6 PL, 148pts]
Ravenwing Attack Bike x2
-Multi-melta

**Ravenwing Bike Squad [11 PL, 204pts]
Ravenwing Biker x5
Ravenwing Sergeant

**Ravenwing Bike Squad [11 PL, 204pts]
Ravenwing Biker x5
Ravenwing Sergeant

My thoughts on how the list will play:

Ravenwing will be hit and run, focusing fire on the main board threats. Bikes will screen the Assault Bikes. Focus of the Assault Bikes will be to take out Vehicles/Monstrous Creatures/High Toughness targets. Sammael will provide Aura bubble and fire support for the Ravenwing, but will try to keep him out of LoS of heavy weapons as possible.

Scouts will be deployed in cover, using them for Character hunting and Deep Strike denial. Deathwing will be used as a Deep Strike reaction force, to deal with any issues that need arise.

At least that's how I see the army working. Recommendations? Suggestions?

You prolly know Ravenwing are terribly overpriced now. They're almost certain to get much, much cheaper with the codex, as Space Marine bikers did.

I would recommend dropping a bike from each squad in order to take two specials (and possibly a combi) in each. It'll provide additional target saturation and the ability to go after more targets at once. As it stands now, if all you're looking for is a screen for your Attack Bikes, Scouts are the much better choice.

I can see that, but working with what I got for now. Thanks for the input.

That's a really good idea. I was trying to get as much dakka as possible per unit, but that makes more sense. Thanks!

Had to drop the Camo Cloaks off the Scouts, drop one bike from each Bike Squad... but was able to add 2 Plasma Guns and a Combi-Plasma to both Bike Squads. Thanks again for the advice!

You could also replace the Combi weapons with Storm Bolters and put the cloaks back on the Scouts if you wanted. Storm Bolter makes up for the dropped bike in each squad.

I find that Ravenwing Bike Squads need the special weapons, so I second the recommendations to find the points to put them in.

Sammael in Sableclaw can have problems since he can be targeted. I find that he runs much better on Corvex. Still, he might catch some folks on the back foot!

My Deathwing /Ravenwing force has done well. You have the Scouts to hold an objective in your own deployment zone if required, and you can really take the fight to the enemy. The bikes are over-costed, but they can chew through hordes with the bolters and deal with MEQs with Plasmaguns.

Good hunting!

you will have fun playing this. most balanced opponents screen with cheap infantry that ravenwing are good against, allowing deathwing to slap whatever they were protecting. Against melee armies, bikes have enough movement to escape or shift deployment to the other side of the board, forcing your opponent to deploy in the middle or swing at nothing.

Consider heavy bolters on the bikes to skirmish. Land Speeders would also do this well. If you haven't yet built the Deathwing, make one unit of Knights.

I am thinking the same, but I don't have a good model to sub in for the Corvex. Therefore I am using a standard Land Speeder to represent Sableclaw. Hoping that this will let me get some games in with the army and get a feel for how it plays... then spend more money. Thanks for the suggestions!

I will definitely consider the heavy bolters. Went with the multi-meltas to punch through high Toughness targets (tanks, monsters, cheese monkeys). The Deathwing models are from Dark Vengeance, so single pose only. Knights are on my model wish list.

Sammael on Sableclaw can really surprise people in assault. His speed gives him great reach and he can suddenly cut down a character or squad that thought it was safe in the backfield. While he is hard to support, Fly gives some subtle advantages in melee.

Heavy bolter Attack Bikes certainly churn out the dakka, but your list already has plenty of dakka. The multi-meltas give you an answer to heavier things. I've put them in my Ravenwing Bike squads and found that it works a little better than squads of them on their own. They last longer.

Cheers
