So i have 2 Leviathans and i am looking for some suggestions on how to run these guys.

I have 2 pairs of Grav flux Bombards and a pair of Storm/butcher Cannon arrays.

I can either run chaos or regular Marines... not sure which way to go.

The Marine variant is the cheapest.. both loadouts are just over 300pts they do come with the restriction of having to have 2 other heavy coices to be able to run 2 of them.

Chaos versions are a bit more The grav flux a few points under 350 and the Butcher cannon a few pts over.

These guys generally have to walk.. so they need to be survivable.

Some thoughts..

If SMs these guys look to be best to run as Ultramarines.. Chapter tactic of being able to back out of combat and still shoot is very good. They can also run with Gullyman or a chapter master for better shooting. they both move 8'.

Death Guard is interesting with disgusting resilliance. could screen them with a decent sized squad of plague bearers. Also Putrid Detonation for the lulz... garanteed D3 mortal wounds per unit in 6"

Regualar Chaos Marines i think Alpha legion might be good with -1 to hitting the Dreads over 12". Any chaos chapter is also interesting with screening Cultists able to regenerate once they get whittled down.

I was considering definatly running 1 Dread with 2 Bombards... i could run a second like that however i was thinking the second should have some better range..

So any thoughts on list building with these guys ? im open to any ideas.

thx

Honestly if you aren't gonna go melee, Ultramarines are the safest bet to make sure you aren't gonna get tarpitted. I don't think you can go wrong almost any Chapter or Legion though.

yea i prefer them as more shooty.. the grav bombard just seems so good and the Storm cannon arrays guarantee 20 shots vs non horde units.

Whats run best with them ? are screen units necessary with UM chapter tactics ? where do i need to fill in.. do i need more tank busting or do the dreads do that enough ?

I was wondering if screening them with a couple of heavy weapons teams might work.. if gullyman is around he helps with rerolls when moving.. also they can shoot out of turn if something comes in near them.

If going Death Guard you do not gain DR, sorry bud.

You do, however, take no penalties for moving and firing heavy weapons though. Which is still pretty good.

Yup. If I'm going to get one someday (also for DG) I'll probably run it with a Butcher Cannon Array and a Siege Drill, that way I can shoot stuff as I move up the table, then charge into the densest cluster of units I can find, kill as much as I can and when my opponent destroys the dread use Putrid Detonation on it to take another chunk of units with it (The Hellforged Leviathan has a quite nasty explosion, doesn't it?). A very fluffy and funny way to use a giant death robot that is piloted by an insane rotting half-corpse

edit: yep, D3 mortal wounds to any unit within 6", D6 if it's a psyker. That means it goes down as a free smite in an area bigger than the former Large Blast template for a measly 1 CP... slam this thing into a Grey Knight army and laugh maniacally while drinking your opponents tears as it explodes (or tears everything apart as your opponent doesn't dare to touch it anymore as soon as it reaches CC)
