Hello everyone!

Below you'll find the list I've been playing for a few weeks now. It works well enough but I find I have a hole in the assault department. I have no way of dealing with heavy hitters once they reach my line. At 8th Edition's furious pace, that is usually by turn 2!

So I would like to include some kind of assault element. I have a box of Vanguard and a box of Assault Terminators en route, but I'm willing to entertain other options.

Right now I think I'd like to swap out the 10-man tactical squad and their Rhino for a Vanguard Veterans squad with jump packs and a ditto Chaplain. This gives me enough points to equip the Vangaurd with 3x Thunder Hammers (one on the sergeant) and bolt pistols, and 2x Storm Shields and Chainswords to soak up wounds with their 3+ invuln.

Do you think this would work? Do you think I'm sacrificing the wrong unit, or bringing in the wrong assault element? Is my army bad and should I feel bad? I'm all ears

I'm no expert but I'd do something along the lines of what you're saying with the chaplain and vanguard units as that way you'll also have another command point with the Vanguard detachment since you'll have 3 elite choices. I've found termies really good this edition but they are very expensive.

What units will be using the other rhino and the drop pod? Other marine squad and captain(s) in a rhino, and sternguard in pod? I like the ability to keep the sternguard in reserve as 1) They won't get shot up if you don't get first turn and 2) you can aggressively position them but they have a very nice 30' range so I'd never put them too close to enemy units. I'd also exchange the other captain for a lieutenant to get those sweet sweet rerolls

Thanks Boundless, yeah that's the idea The Sternguard go in the drop pod together with the slightly blinged-out Captain, who is also the Warlord and brings the Storm of Fire trait. Storm of Fire and Mastreful Marksmanship work together beautifully! The remaining Tactical Marines go in the rhino, together with the other captain. That captain disembarks on the first turn and sticks with the Predators and the Venerable Dreadnought for re-rolls. The Marines in their rhino move up the field to claim objectives and support the Sternguard.
