Blood-Drenched Death Company Marine

Mississippi

So, I just finished up painting a Primaris Intercessor squad sergeant a few weeks ago and am currently slogging away at painting the 4 models to accompany him in this squad for my Blood Angels army.

I'm enjoying it, and find the Primaris marines enjoyable to paint for sure.

That said, I have, as of last night, discovered a proverbial hitch in my giddy-up. According to the new Primaris Intercessors data sheet entry in the fairly recently released Space Marines codex (Which I am using per GW's instruction on index vs. codex units available to me as a Blood Angels player) I can equip the sergeant with a Bolt Rifle, and an optional power sword. I like power swords, especially being a Blood Angels player. I had a spare sergeant's power sword from the Blood Angels tactical squad box, and put it to good use on the model I ultimately chose to be my sergeant:

Very happy with the end result. Now I run into a new, unforeseen issue.

A friend of mine alerted me that it wasn't so simple as it was made out to be, and citing this information here:

https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/Downloads/K3ns3JDOGE2asjf/Primaris-week-4/IORF435R4_ENG_Primaris_Marines_Release_04_July_29th.pdf

Which, frustratingly enough, notes that Blood Angels Intercessor Sergeants actually CANNOT take a power sword option, but instead are limited to chainswords only as an 'off-hand' weapon.

So that leaves me with playing with an illegal model and calling it a chainsword, or hacking the hand off and replacing it with a chainsword, which I can do, but wish I didn't have to do, or at the very least I'd see this before I modeled and painted up this power sword.

That all being said, what might you have done or modeled and painted up, only to realize it wasn't a legal option after the fact? Call me curious.

Take it easy.

Derp, I put this in the wrong forum, thought I was in the Painting and Modeling forum, not the P&M Blogs section!

Mods, if you'd be so kind as to throw this into the right forum I'd be eternally grateful. Don't post while modeling/painting kids, it never ends well!

Take it easy.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

Before I even started playing 40K, I'd been buying a little Salamanders force for fun. And I looked into the fluff and all the cool background. Lots of flamers!

So I have a Tactical Squad with 2 flamers, a combi flamer and a missile launcher. It looks darn cool but it's super illegal in terms of rules.

Leave it, play it as a chainsword and wait for Codex:BA to drop.

I came across your P&M blog the other day and was super impressed with your painting! That ruling is as baffling as it is disappointing, though. We've all been there, at least, especially with rules changes between editions.

Honestly, aside from tournament play and the occasional TFG, I'd hope you'd be fine just saying "hey, this guy has a close combat weapon, not a power sword," at least until the codex comes out.

You could also use the model as a primaris captain, and pick up a https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Etb-Primaris-Intercessors-2017 box to pad out the squad *and* get a unique seargant model.
