Hi everybody,

I am a beginner with Warhammer 40k and so I am with painting.
Would love to give my uprising Admech force a colour scheme with is similar to the following style in the attachment.
But I do need your help and advice how to go for this.
Recently I do possess a tiny stockpile of about 25 army painter colours, including two incs to reach this goal.
Any tips, advice, help or related artwork would really help me a lot and is much appreciated!

Thanks and cheers!

Sorry got mixed up, starting again:

You could start with Stygies VIII that might be close and you can play from this base paint scheme.

It is the same as mars pattern other than the black cloak.

Yes I was thinking about stygies - which would fit because I wanted to use this forge world anyway.
Problem I do see with the robes: they are pure black - which would give a quite flat and unfinished view?
Never saw painted stygies as real models yet.
So I was thinking about using some "carbon" looking robes, manage like stygies trousers?
But how to differ them from armour and platemails (the not red ones...).

Whenever something is described as black just use a very dark grey and the problem is solved. Don't worry, everyone will still register it as black. You could also just paint the actually grey parts in the same "black" colour, it would look more like the pictured armour that way anyway.

Agreed.
I paint Black Templar and if you go to full light sucking black you cannot show any depth.

Give some thought on the "type" of grey or black.
A little bit of blue gives a tech look to it, a hint of brown gives an old and somewhat dusty look.
I think that depends on your views of the Mechanicus.
The N7 look is wasted on them.

Most people would then take the base colour 3 or 4 to 1 mixing in white depending on how bright you want the outer folds and apply a wash and then next add more white for edge highlights.
Then you can use black shade for either case. <edit> Made an error there: never do shade until you have done all paint washes.

One added touch is if you have an airbrush you can do a quick spray of rust-red or a dark brown from above (Zenithal highlighting) for that dirty look (practice with a test piece first!).

Ok thinking about painting the robes and trousers with "hardened carapace" and the gun and metal parts with "castle grey".
Dark Inc both. Then highlighting the edges of the robes with something brighter like "drake tooth" and dry brush the weapons "gun metal" and highlighting it with "plate mail armour".
Maybe highlight some parts of the robes and trousers with castle grey.
Some plates will get red and white and some of the weapon parts copper colour.
Sounds right?

@Talizvar: sorry didn't even saw your post before my reply. Maybe use something like " fog grey" instead for robe edge highlight to give some blue tone?
Sorry I don't even know what shades are....

The #1 means of "cheating" for shading into cracks and the depths of folds.
It is also known as a "wash".

Here is a very detailed write-up on how to make your own:

I would strongly suggest a mix of distilled water, Liquitex "inks" (acrylic paint inks, higher pigment), matt medium and a few drops of "flow aid" and it works awesome.

Ah ok then I think it was just my bad English. I do know what washes are. So you justment not to start with highlighting or dry rushing before any part has prepared with washes/inks?
But why do you think N7 style is wasted on Admech? They seem stylish to me too...

No. Take a look at this tutorial for Eldrad Ulthran and you'll see that his robes don't look 'flat' or 'unfinished'.

You can use other colors in small quantities with Black to give it detail and appear warmer or cooler.

Here is an example of a Deathwatch Marine i painted awhile back and I used Vallejo Periscopse (blue) and white to do highlights and show detail on true black:

It's interesting what the human eye will do. when you look at it compared to the jet black base it will appear "blue-ish". But then when it's seperate from the all black surfaces it will appear to be a Cool temperature black surface.

Very nice painting tutorial - will watch more of these.

Nice painting with the black space marine armour. I am wondering if this would work with some bright red highlighting lines instead of the blue and how it would work with there's playing part...?
