Alright so its been over a week since the AM codex has come out, and due to cries of rage and hurt from the community, we can expect to see some major stuff in the FAQ. Any thoughts on the matter? What could gw possibly do that would balance the guard?

I would expect the FAQ to just have some minor clarifications and errata while actual changes will come in some other document (although likely not Chapter Approved, given that even with extremely generous deadlines it's not gonna make it in there). So far rule and points changes in FAQs have only been to bring things in line between Codexes and indexes (like Chaos Daemons).

I expect the Tallarn stratagem to be changed to 3 units of infantry, or 3 vehicle models. Deepstriking 9 Leman Russes probably wasn't intended.
I expect the Dagger Relic to be switched to require units which have Regiment as a Tag, or to be clarified a bit.
I expect the Ogryn Bodyguard will get some kind of restriction of one per character with voice of command, similar to command squads to avoid shenanigans.

Probably a few other clarifications here or there, nothing out of the ordinary though. Most everything is pretty clear RAI, and there aren't too many that don't work RAW if you ask me. I think Scions will get the option of taking HSLG with their Vox man in the command squad, like they did in the other errata. THEY BETTER GW, I ALREADY MADE THEM! GRRR.

The rest of what the community is all balancing stuff, and its far far to soon to expect anything more from GW on that front.

Is it ok to admit that when I realized the Ogryn Bodyguard had no limit on him, I wanted to make an entire army of Banes just because I thought I can, only to get deflated to realize there's no thematic HQ choice for them?

FAQ if anything will just clarify some key words for stratagem use etc. I highly doubt it will change anything substantive in the codex like Doctrines and/or point costs.

Chapter Approved at the end of the year may change some point values, but I think a lot of people have this false hope that it will recost entire armies. I'd love to be proven wrong with this though, only time will tell.

GW has already stated that Chapter Approved will "... update matched play points for dozens of units and weapons across every army...".

I'm sure it will. Refer to our last conversation on exactly this topic.

Don't expect any changes. A few clarifications is about all they should change at this point. Yes, i am a person that refuses to play against AM at this time, harlequins into AM is not an enjoyable game currently. But there are other folks to play.

Short term answer for AM, give us chapter approved, hopefully this will address some of the issues.

The real answer for guard is... Fast forward time, deliver all codices so we can fairly judge the AM codex.

In war there is poetry; in death, release.

I wonder if they'll fix the 'AM Crusaders are an AoF battery that can either double the value of all SoB infantry or buff up a single unit to the point that everything within range of it's shooting dies at the start of every turn.' Thing.

I'd like to see the Master of Command Warlord Trait changed/clarified so that it actually functions on Commissars and such (especially since Yarrick is forced to take it).

What needs to be clarified or changed?

Your Warlord gains the Voice of Command ability. If your Warlord already has the Voice of Command or Tank Orders ability, they may instead issue one additional order per turn.

If you're a Commissar or a model without the "Voice of Command" ability, then you gain it. If you already have Voice of Command or Tank Orders, you instead gain the ability to issue another Order per turn.

And then the commissar can give an order to whom?

Well done.

Now look at the rules for Orders and tell me who that Commissar can issue orders to.

Yeah yeah yeah.

That said:
Good! I love anything that screws over Commissars personally. They can issue Orders to Commissars.

I say that last part in jest.

Luckily it's an easy fix though:
Your Warlord gains the Voice of Command ability and keyword <Regiment>.

I was about to say that gaining a <Regiment> would be interesting, as they could then pick a Regiment Warlord Trait.

Then I remembered.

It is, I think, the cleanest fix to it.

I do wish that it granted the Voice of Command in addition to the Tank Orders for a Tank Commander.

Blast! Yet again, so close and so far from Bullgryns being able to be given Fix Bayonets through the application of patented Ogryn Bodyguard Shenanigans.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

These. Plus something saying the bodyguards can't save other bodyguards.

I also suspect they'll clarify whether models coming onto the board from reserve count as having moved their full movement that turn.
