So I am struggling on which way to go. My army is currently a mid range army, with 4 squads of 5 tsons with a Soulreaper cannon in each squad for 24 inch range goodness. For close combat I have a deamon prince and 5 chaos spawns (love how effective these guys are now). For long range I have a predator with autocannon/heavy bolters (thinking of swapping bolters to laz cannons) and a dreadnought with dual laz / scourge.

But where do I need more Support? Ectoplasam cannons give me more 24" threat. Mauler is a terrific close range threat. And dual haties autocannons are really not bad with the number of shots coming out of it.

I just have no experience with this model, so what works? What doesn't? Any help would be appreciated before I put this guy together.

The maulerfiend is great, the forgefiend is... not. I'd definitely recommend going the maulerfiend route.

The Demonforge Stratagem really helps the Forgefiend in the shooting phase. However, since you already have a Defiler, (run the Demonforge strat on him) and i would suggest the Maulerfiend (use the strategem on him in fightphase).

Sorry, autocorrect got me there. I don't have a defiler, I have a dreadnought. Yes, I know they are called hellbrutes now, old habits and all.

Another thing I was looking at that I hoped someone has had some luck with, maulerfiend with Mark of nurgle and a deamon psycher with nurgel like the Herald of nurgle with fleshy abundance. That allows me to heal d3 wounds as well would it not?

The Forgefiend is great... if you have access to the Demonforge Stratagem. Which Thousand Sons don't have.

If you want to use it, take it in an allied CSM detachment.

The Maulferfiend is okish on its own (even without Demonforge) but aim it at vehicles or multi-wound models or it's potential is wasted.

Maulerfiend is better, but I find the Forgefiend is good as a long range infantry killer with hades autocannons. I find the Ecto gaks fairly underwhelming for the points, and the +12" ranfe kn the cannons mean it is less likely to get attacked back.

Ectoplasma cannons are trash for their cost. They're worse than Hades autocannons against EVERYTHING, yet cost more... Go figure.

Well, it has a much higher Ap, at -3 as opposed to -1...But that benefit is totally offset by the fact the Autocannon hits a full 12" longer, AND is a flat heavy 4, where Ecto is d3. Even if you field three Ectos, you are still AT BEST getting only one more shot. At worst, you're shooting less than a single Cannon.

Yeah, I would be running the force as a "renegade" chapter just because I want access to the cheaper TSons, even if they are now an elite choice instead of troops. This gets me access to the relics and stuff, even though again there is not much for this list that makes much of a difference and the legion trait isn't going to get used much, still its nice if I need it.

I think Forgefiend with Autocannons is how I will run it, don't know if I will go with Ectoplasam Cannon to replace its Deamon Jaws or not but either way it will do its job. Between this guy and the Pred and Hellbrute I think I will be good for big guns. I may have trouble with T8 targets until I switch those HB's on the Pred into Laz Cannons but I think this will work.

I'd keep with the Jaws, to be honest. If something is attempting to get close to it on purpose, I think its more important that it can deal with melee threats if they backline deepstrike your artillery.
