So seeing as 8th ed is leaps and bounds better than 6th and 7th, I am getting back into it the hobby. I was taking a look at what I would need to change and it looks like I can fit more plasma in the squad than before.

First Question:

Squad composition:
The unit contains 1 Grey Hunter Pack Leader and 4 Grey Hunters. It can include up to 5 additional Grey Hunters. It can also include either a Wolf Guard Pack Leader or a Wolf Guard Pack Leader in Terminator Armor.
Relevant armament option:
For each five models in the unit, one Grey Hunter may replace his boltgun with an item from the Space Wolves Special Weapons List
So RAW, since it says "models" I can take 1 Grey Hunter Pack Leader, 8 Grey Hunters, and 1 Wolf Guard Pack Leader and qualify for 2 special weapons?

Second question:

The Power Rating would be 13, not 8?

Third question:

So I can take said unit, Drop Pod it on Turn 1 so they are at least 9" of the enemy, fire 3 Plasma Gun, 7 Boltgun, 9 Bolt Pistol, and 1 Plasma Pistol (mayhap throw a grenade), and then charge the enemy?

So x23 S 4 AP 0 and x7 S 7 AP -3 shots, plus potentially x16 S 4 AP 0 and x4 S 4 AP -3 (assuming Power Swords) close combat attacks. So MEQ casualties being 5.667 from shooting, 3.111 from combat, and 1d6 from morale (assuming Ld 8).

This edition is an awful lot more killy it seems!

Or am I missing where they state Infantry can't fire all their weapons?

You are. A model can fire it's pistols, a grenade (once per unit), or everything else. I believe it's in the rules for pistols and grenades.

Ah, thank you. It is part of the Pistol rules. It must be late as I missed it a dozen times.

Still, if the WGPL counts towards the model count for taking 2 special weapons then sweet!

Yes, you can. Even if they have different names and stats they're part of the same unit. To be allowed to bring 2 special weapons you need a 10 man squad.

Thank you. I thought as much. There is much to unlearn in order to get started on 8th edition; not being able to take a WGPL in a Drop Pod i I wanted x2 Plasma has been a long standing pain point...

Came up in my last game, and I'm not sure which armor is worn by whom: just make sure you're not trying to fit a terminator into a pod or rhino. They won't fit.
