Hey all, I just got into 40k and out of a few other games, and I'm trying to push my skills a bit further with my new beginning with admech.

I'm trying to go from "pretty good" to "wow", and I'm not sure I'm there yet, any constructive criticism would be appreciated.

I'm doing a mainly Skitarii admech force, Martians. Since they'll be encountering all kinds of xenos, chaos forces, and apparently alot of rogue space marines, I figure they'd be in the field a long time so far from home and the vehicles would start to get a bit grungy. This is my first real try with weathering outside of a few practices on broken models. I'm going for grungy, dirty, and old, but not 'total piece of crap'.

About the only thing that isn't done yet is the base and the admech sigil on the back.

Honestly I think it looks great. My only suggestions would be that the base looks too plain. And the off white areas (the legs and those arms on the front) don't seem to have gotten the same level of attention as the red on the chassis.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Thanks, and good eye. The legs really didnt get as much attention. The little front arm lost some detail in the photo.

As for the legs, I just put a brown wash on it, hoping to only get the wash in the cracks, but it kind of ended up everywhere which made it look a bit too busy to add more details, so i left it.

Maybe i should go back and paint back over the mess.

Good weathering all around. My only suggestion would be to brighten up the highlight colour. I think it needs to be a bit brighter so there is more contrast, it would help make the dents/scratches more 3D.

armypainter: I used heavy chipping medium to get the chips, although I'm not really even sure it was needed. I actually achieved similar chipping on parts that didn't have the medium on it by scratching it with the end of a brush - which took it down to the black primer, and i then painted some metal in the middle of black primer-spot and added highlights. However, i used a paint/primer that stains plastic (ie: if you strip the model, it will still be black), so i think that prevents it from scratching down to the plastic.

The rust-stains are from "Rust Streaks" effects enamel from AK interactive. This stuff was really effective and easy to use.

The paint itself is Citadel paints. Its the first time I've used them. I always kind of brushed Citadel paints off as overpriced garbage. Before, I've always used artists paints - 3 primaries + black/white. This was much much easier with pre-mixed colors and transparent layer paints, and i have to admit citadel paints are nice quality.

Given that you dirt base color is Martian red, there should be red dust on the white parts. Maybe some red oxide pastel dust?

Just a bit of an update based on suggestions. I went back and redid the off-white on the legs and grimed it up. Also added a bit more color to the chips to make them look a bit more 3d. I also finished the base. I've been trying to get ahold of some Citadel Skulls for a bit, but they're always out of stock. Luckily I had a spare servo-skull from the infiltrators, so i stuck that on the base.

Also added some pics of the weapon variants plus the moveable hatch The hatch was nerve-wracking. I was sure it was going to snap while I was drilling it. As cool as a moveable hatch is, i think i may skip that on the next one, esp since the extra cognis cannon is only 5 pts and it's worth it for cool points alone to have the skitarii on the top.

There are still a few details to do on the base, and I need to paint the base-rim, but other than that, I think I'm getting close to done.
