Converting Neophyte Hybrids to Guardsman is something they have done extensively in the new codex and I am wanting to give it a try, as I have heaps and heaps of guard bits. Only thing I am having trouble deciding is what to do with the little Nid symbols they have hanging from their waists. Obviously remove them of course!
But what to replace them with?
For context Im going to use these guys in my Valhallan army as I have tons of great Valhallan heads from Anvil (they all live in underground cities, so some miners would be prevalent I would assume! They might end up as conscripts)
Ive been debating what to do, replace them with skulls, grenades, knives, little stars? Be lay and put an ammo pouch there? I know they have conversions with little shields for the feudal world guys.
Any suggestions from the conversion masters out there?

While I was thinking about this I figured a great idea for use for them would be as Veterans in the "Remorhaz" Company of tunnelers using the classic Ice Tunneler machines from Valhallan days of yor. Plus a great opportunity to make them into engineers for a Hades drill, course the only problem there is buying a drill for a reasonable price....

Looking at the models, I would suggest the tiny skulls and talismans you get to decorate space marine backpacks and equipment. The symbols hang too low on chains on some models to be where you'd store a grenade.
I wish I knew the name of the bits I mean, but they're about 5mm or so and flat backed.

Agree with Buttery on this one. Some can be covered with grenades and such, but generally you're looking for those little bits. You can generally find them for good prices on bits sites or buy them by them bucketload if you're lucky on eBay.

thankfully I have an incredibly robust bit box, its just so big that I didn't even know when to start! This is what I have so far, as I move along I will start using regular guard arms and mix in some of those guard shoulderpads that are rife in the vehicle boxes (esp once I run out of non-mutated hands). The heads are from anvil, and I will have to start making some plasma gunners to go with. I think the look is interesting, it makes me think of heavy industrial Tesla Troopers from Red Alert a tiny bit.
Also I just realized this is a terrible picture, sorry!
