Hey Dakka quick questions. What flavor of god is best for Daemon Princes in a chaos space marine army in 8th? And what is everyone’s favorite unit of daemon for chaos marines?
Thanks in advance!

I am by no means a skilled player, but I like a Slaanesh DP, with wings, dual claws(+3A), the +1 attack warlord trait and the intoxicating elixir (+1S and +1A) for a highly mobile melee hitter that can still smite... just need a way to stop him getting shot to bits once the enemy walk away from him.

If by best you mean the most mathematically efficient, then Nurgle one, there is simply no competition here
Most survivable
Most damage due to being the only one that can benefit from DG and Chaos Demon psychic powers for a whooping +2 to wound roll
Meaning you can wound anything in the game on 2+, deal double damage on 5+ and mortal wounds 5+

I've been running an Iron Warriors Prince with the 2+ relic armor that regens a wound, with the +1 wound 6+fnp, and Delightful Agonies. Very tough monster.
This frees up my Death Guard prince to act as distraction carnifex with Bloat drones and Spawn.
I Haven played much with Chaos Daemons but I'd say Bloodletters seem good this edition. Every Daemons list I see is always Tzeentch.

Two best are Tzeetch and Nurgle. Slaneesh and Khorne are situationally good.

I wish the Khorne DP got something better than +1 attack to replace the psyker powers. Ideally I'd like a built in anti psyker ability or built in advance and charge ability in addition to the extra attack.
That being said, I run mine with the default sword/claw. Mostly because the model, but also because I like it. I may consider building a new one with dual claws, I just am not a fan of the plastic kit.

As said, nurgle DP. And my favorite demon unit would be the bloodletters out of the 4 avail to CSM. Horrors are very good as well. But I find Bloodletters when buffed by a allied Herald on a skull throne to hit very hard on the charge and mulch MEQ troops. Low number of attacks see's them not being to hot after the charge. But if you can combo it right you have a nasty pack of MEQ killers. Khorne DP's have been shafted in every edition since 4th. One attack is not worth the loss of psyker powers.

Well. OP did say CSM daemon prince, not Chaos Daemons DP.
For CD DP the nurgle Prince gives saves against Mortal Wounds which is invaluable.
Wait for codex though, things can change. Automatically Appended Next Post: On the CSM prince front, I enjoy my IW 2+, 5+fnp, 6+ extra fnp, regen Prince, but Now I'm thinking maybe Alpha Legion with Miasma might be good. -1 shooting, plus another - 1 on the power can work out in certain situations.

If you're buying the Sigmar Daemon Prince he lends himself well to Khorne. Although lacking a psychic phase is really sad panda city.
Most go with Nurgle but i like Slaanesh.

Thanks for all comments!
Yeah I want to run the same god for daemons and daemon prince. Problem is all I have daemonwise are 10-12 metal blood letters + command. I didn’t want to make it a Khorne daemon prince. I am running a renegade warband so I won’t have access to legion specific war gear. So bloodletters and horrors are top tier? My warband is not god specific so I am feee to take what ever got I want...I like the idea of horrors but for ten horrors one needs like 20 blue horrors? Plus brimstone? Lots of models. I was hoping to run a one god army but I suppose it only matters fluff wise...

If you're runnng a prince from the CSM codex, God alignment doesent really matter much aside from Psychic Powers. CSM get what is considered the Vanilla prince. If you're taking a Renegades Prince, advancing and charging, go slaanesh for Delightful Agonies, or nurgle for Miasma.
Im a nurgle player so for Chaos Daemons, I'd say their whole minis line is pretty good.

.
not to mention if you really wanna go nuts you can use the 1cp iron warriors strat for another 6
so 9w starting
2+ 5++
regains a wound every turn
ignores wounds on 5+ with DA, then on a 6 for the trait then a 6 again for the strat!
its late, my maths brain no so sharp but i think thats a chance of ignoring 2 thirds of all wounds right?
in my experience running a DP in 8th is all about keeping it alive Automatically Appended Next Post: aye maths all wrong, more like 45%
nurgle one prob better with with revolt WL 4+ DR but gotta remember that isnt useful vs mortal wounds

Slaanesh dp is my fav. Like others said, 2 claws, intoxicating elixir, I go with +1w/6+fnp for warlord trait, and give him diabolic strength for psychic.
That's 9 wounds with 3+/5++/6+++ charecter that deals 9 str 10 hits on a 2+ rerolling ones to hit and wounding most things on a 2+ or 3+, dealing 2 wounds a hit. Khorne dp has nothing on this guy. And give him wings if you want that extra movement.
I use raptors as cheap as possible to keep up with him, he is a chr so if the target gets wiped out or walks out of combat the raptors protect him from getting auto shot at.

Tzeentch Veteran Marine with Psychic Potential

I currently use a Tzeentch DP with wings and double talons. That is just how it is modeled, so that is what I use, but I do like to run the Tzeentch Artifact (+1 to smite) cast diabolic strength, then use the Tzeentch Stratagem to cast Smite as well on the target if it is something powerful (vehicle, elite infantry, monster) then charge. I also like the flames of spite warlord trait. With 8 attacks I usually roll a 6 or two and those extra wounds really come in handy against most units. If I was going to build competitively though, I would use Slannesh DP with wings and double talon, plus the Slannesh artifact. The strength 8 is enough most of the time, so then you can bring the Slannesh spell for protection, or warp time for fast moving and not need diabolic strength unless you plan on fighting a knight or something. Personally, my opinion is that in 8th most defense is not worth it. So I don't like the +1 wound+6+ FNP warlord trait, I would rather him be more killy. I think it is better to protect the DP with screening since he is a character. I would probably still use flames of spite or the +1 attack warlord trait, or even the re-roll ones to wound trait with Slannesh.
Also a World Eaters DP of Khrone with wings and talons could be good. Fighting twice, and a third time with the Stratagem could really do some damage, and again with Flames of Spite you could really put out some mortal wounds in that circumstance.

Imagine the insanity if Khorne units naturally fought twice. My god, Possessed and Mutilators and Khorne Deamon Princes and melee Chosen and Chaos Spawn would be amazing.

Aahhhhhh. Since I don't use Khrone I did not look at this to deeply, and did not realize it is only an additional attack. Wow that is super crappy compared to the BL trait.

Yes, and no. World Eaters can use Bezerkers as troops, and it is never just one attack. It's one additional attack with that power fist on your chosen, 2 extra on a Bezerker, those 20 attacks from the 10 Cultists with Brutal Assualt Weapons suddenly went up to 30. It's all relative. That being said, it still sucks that a Khorne DP loses out on Psyking for a meager 1 attack. That trade off is not worth it.
