So. This isn't a big reveal of a sexy..or disgusting model. It's more of a brainstorm/call for aid. Currently I have been working to convert and model an entire Deathguard force based around skaven models and various bits found across the vast internet. I have been able to create most things so far that have interested me with the exception of the plagueburst crawler (that tank is sexy alread). However I've been hearing great things about Foetid Bloat Drones for a while now..and now there's Blight Haulers..and I have not a clue how I could go about converting something Skaven-y to substitute for them. On their own they look as alien as can be. That's great, but it doesn't fit the theme I'm going for at all.

So again, call for help..Anyone have any sort of ideas on how I can make this sort of thing work? One Idea I had was to pin the turbines to the sides of Doomwheels and outfit them with some of the weapons and plating of the drones, but I am almost concerned it would make them much larger than the drones. Any ideas that might be out there?

A link to an album of my army so far. It's still almost all bits of work in progress, but the overall theme of what things are is there.

Awesome looking army! I approve!!

On topic, have you though of using some bits from the Kharadron? Mix their floaty guys or smaller sky-boats with skaven bits? I've seen a couple of them converted to skaven in Pintrest so it might not be too far a stretch to "nurgle" them up a bit.

Another option, you keep the Bloat Drones and attach the little brain rats that sit on the backs of the Stormfiends, or put a skaven rider on them.

Curious to see what you come up with!

Thanks to you both. The small boat option is an idea. I'm afraid they might not look similar enough at all however. I actually have some of them already I could convert over if it comes to it.

The 50mm bases they come on. I have a temporary one I fit the rat Typhus on because otherwise one of my stormfiends has a different set of weapons.

50's are pretty big as is. I do a lot of conversion work, so I have gotten very used to going on GW's site and reading product descriptions. Almost every single thing on there tells you what size base it comes one.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Another idea could be to maybe use the legs of a dragoon/ironstrider and work the body of that into doomwheels converted to hold the various drone weapon options. It would convey the ability to move quickly alongside the rickety construction of Skaven.

Maybe put little rat models in place of those little floaty insect things (nB - I dunno that army at all, Skaven tho, that I know hehe)

I think I would avoid the dwarf floaty things - they don't seem to me to fit the style you're going for, in this instance.

I would probably get a hold of some bits like the wheels from the catapults/bell (unless you really don't want to use wheels, which in a 40k army I can understand), the warpstone bit from the WLC, maybe also the one from the Bell. The doomwheel is a good idea but I think you might be right, unless you find a way to incorporate the tracks maybe, over several models, which might work. The engine from the Hellpit Abomb too might be a useful bit. Other thing I'd play with maybe, if you could, is get two maybe round bits from the Doomflayer - that might be too much though, as it's pretty expensive, and not a easy to find bits for model.

Anyway once you had some of those bits, I might try taking the 'motors' off and replacing them with warpstone (or Doomflayer round bits). Or you could possibly replace the interior of the motors with warpstone, giving them a more skaven look. With a good bit of GS, it's not that hard to actually sculpt some warpstone if you'd rather go that route.

Definitely seconding the ratbrain idea, that sounds like it'd look good.

For the record this was meant to be conversion ideas for the Foetid Bloat Drone and not the flying plague drone bug things. If I was trying for those, the wings on stormfiends might work better. My ideal conversion is typically something that looks like it could actually be what I'm using it for. Something entirely unrelated doesn't quite do that. :/
I'm still a bit partial to finding bloat drone turbines and attaching them to a doomwheel. I would use the small "arms" to hold the various options like the plaguespitters and fleshmower.
