Hi,

I`ve been a fan of calgar in the previous editions, but I found he wasn't realy worth taking at about 285 points, now I`ve tried him out a few times and he had moderate success and at 200 point I think he much more playable in this edition, but I wonder what the main consensus is.

I`ve played him going forward with terminators and tacticals with one or two vindicators in range of his reroll bubble and i`ve played him static in a cloud of devastators.
is there an better, smarter or more fun way to play him?

Perhaps look at it from the perspective of 'what can Calgar do which a beast like Rowboat can't'? That I think would be the smarter option.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

I think he's decent. The rerolls + deep strike capability is good, and the bonus 2 CP is excellent. I consider him to be +5 CP basically, because I'd otherwise be spending 3 on a Captain to Chapter Master upgrade. I also like that his powerfists don't have that pesky -1 to hit.

Competing with Guilliman, Calgar costs about half the points, can Deep Strike, and can ride in a Land Raider. I also think the model is way nicer.

Like the majority of the SM codex he's certainly solid, but not competitive in a tournament list since Guilliman is still broken.

Calgar's pretty good for his cost, but Guilliman surpasses him by leaps and bounds.

Maybe with an Apothecary at his back and 2-4 Honor Guard at his side? With his half damage rule I'll be he stays on his feet through a LOT.

"Those are the Sons of Orar."

"O R they!"

If you are playing at a small where Robby G doesn't fit due to both point cost and slot usage he might be useful, and in even larger games you could consider running both (with Calgar supporting some deesptriking unist for example) but honestly that's about it. He fits into the same roll as his primarch but worse.

Curious myself. Sounds like the consensus is that the extra points of other units you can take by going with the cheaper Calgar doesn’t make up for what Guilliman brings to the table?

Not by a long shot.

Calgar is actually good for the price, but Rowboat is that much better for the price.

he's not a abd character at all, think of him as a "budget gulliman"

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two
