Subject: What should my next single model Eldar purchase be?

So have played Eldar about a decade now and am pretty happy with my collection. However, I don't get to play much atm, but I have time to build and paint. I want to get a single model that keeps my interest and adds to my collection. With no particular criteria (meaning it does not have to be the best in-game choice, though this can be a factor), which should be my next purchase? War Walker - easy to plug into any list, versatile and should be fun to build/paint Support Weapon platform - also easy to plug into a list, though limited in use. I also like the newer model with the option to place both crew on the platform (or not) Vyper - not my favorite choice of the 3, but I could easily magnetize the rear gunner so that I could put it on a scratch built platform and use as a Support platform, so 2-n-1 --------------------although, I guess technically I could so the same with the War Walker too, so..... -

I don't like the War Walker at all, visually. You may feel differently, but I'm not going to suggest buying the model I like the least in the faction. I'll let someone else do that.
The Support Platform looks cool though, and gives you access to an odd weapon no other model does. Since it sounds like you're not a fan of Vypers, that's my recommendation.
Ultimately, of course, you decide.

Having several of each, i may suggest gor for the Support platforms.
It can provide some decent new tactical options with some of the guns (and the current Keywords , Guardian and Vehicle) allow some tricks that most of people don't expect.

The war walker are super fun to build. The support weapons are unique on the table.

I don't want the best army, just one that isn't an exercise in picking up my models by turn 3.

Warwalkers served me well in the previous editions. They are a shock and awe unit.
The other two mentioned units dont interested me at all although Vypers can fill gaps in a gunline.

Thanx for the feedback so far everyone!
Visually, I like all 3 choices, although the Vyper matches my collection the most (although this could be a reason to avoid it due to redundancy)
In the past I have owned Vypers and Walkers which I've sold for various reasons (usually to buy something more useful for that edition). I've never owned the plastic Support weapon, nor have I owned a Guardian weapon platform. I've got one of those on the way and I am interested to see the 2 side by side for size comparison (which Google is oddly devoid of).
I definitely want to keep this poll going for a large pool of votes. In the end I feel it is going to come down to the WW or Support Weapon. My LGS currently has WWs on the shelf, but no Support weapons, so that may influence my decision as well, but we'll see.

I vote Warwalker. It's a very pretty model and it's great on the table. Because it has long range options it's literally plug and play.
Next would be support weapon. Really only the D-Cannon is viable and it has to be built around. Limited range means needs support to function. It does pay you back with amazing damage per point though.
Vypers are just bad.

Guardian weapon platforms are about 1/3rd or less the size of a genuine support platform now. They used to be the same item, and GW arbitrarily split them up when they decided to bump the size of Vibro-cannons and Distort Cannons, etc.
I think a magnetized support weapon would be cool - it's one of the things I don't have, but keep considering.

I voted War Walker because it's the coolest model and best in game unit of the three in my opinion. I'd also go one further and recommend the Wasp Assault Walker for extra coolness.

Definitely a war walker. They're the swiss army knives of Eldar units in an army of specialists.
Need an outflanker? No problem.
Worried about tanks? Bam, 2 bright lances.
Dakka dakka? Double shuricannons.
Want to tick off that las pred? 5++ gives you a decent shot at it.

Yep, it's looking like WW will be the winner. Not only is it the best in-game choice, it's the most versatile (plug-n-play), but it also may be the easiest for me to actually buy (since my LGS keeps them in stock rather than having to order) I'll magnetize the legs so that I can place it on a scratch built grav-platform and be able to use it as a Support weapons as well. One shoulder will get a converted D-cannon, the other will get a "laser sight" using the same bit that a WK uses for its Suncannon. Thanx again everyone!

Don't even need to magnitize. The guns fit onto a square block and they fit deeply and snug. You can just switch them out without magnets. Automatically Appended Next Post: Galef wrote:Yep, it's looking like WW will be the winner.

Pretty cool idea man. Youll figure this out pretty quick but you don't even need to glue the legs onto the warwalker - they fit pretty snug without glue.

I've got 3 ww, and not a one is glued on the legs. Don't rank on them too hard though, they will crack.

WW ordered and on its way! As for magnetizing options, I actually will still use magnets. I've been using magnets for years and the few times I have tried not to use them, the "slots" wear out eventually and the snug fit becomes loose. I've ended up magnetizing models that were originally snug fit that became loose (ended up dropping half the model when I went to move it) Plus, I already have Shuricannons and Bright lances with magnets ready to go. But I am so gonna scratch build a grav platform for the body of the WW to go on. On shoulder will hold the D-cannon, the other will hold a shuriken catapult (to represent the other crew's catapult) -

If you go for War Walker, then most definately buy Wasp. It's so much better design-wise. It's really amazing how few parts here and there makes all the difference in overall appearance. And it is worth to mention, that Wasp comes as a resin upgrade for a standard WW sprue, so entire legs+lower chasis is doubled up. If you can get/have some vechicle parts you can pretty much convert yourself another one (I've "modernised" my old 2nd ed WW this way).
My second vote would be a support weapon, but the old design. Old SP have much more detail than modern plastics but they lack "proper artillery look" - I converted two of those, so that they have shield panels arranged like an old WW had and placed a gunner on a platform.
But if I remember correctly, you are a Saim-Hann player, no? Then you should own at least a single Vyper just for completeness sake Automatically Appended Next Post: Ah, you ninja'd me...

Ah, and there is second weapons sprue, as Wasp uses old "falcon type" mount, not modern "Wrathlord" mount. Really, this kit would be a kitbasher dream if it just had normal and not Forge World price tag...

And was, ya know, not FW. If my LGS could order FW, I'd be tempted, but they do not.
In general if I want a FW unit, I have to covert it using standard GW parts or scratch build.

So I couldn't resist getting both a War Walker and a Support platform. I have the WW assembled but not painted yet, but as I was scratch building the platform (I was originally going to magnetize the WW cockpit onto a platform), I realized it would be easier just to build the whole Support platform: The model on the left, the other models are for scale. It's more in line with the older metal Support platforms that didn't have the crew seated with it. -

I did indeed make the display board for when I take pictures, but it's only about 12"x18". The purple owl is there for aesthetics and tends to show up on many of my photos (cuz it's in the middle of the board) I wanted some unique life form that resides on my Craftworld/Maiden world. I had some wood elf owls and decided to paint them purple to look alien. I also once converted an Eldar version of an Inquisitor with "servo skulls" using the same owls as telepathically linked to the "Inquisitor" But that was early last edition when you could take a single Inquisitor, add it to ANY army and the skulls provided an anti-Scout bubble to prevent certain unit from getting close on the first turn. -
