I am currently trying to figure out how can I provide good anti-air capabilities to my lists, for a relatively low point cost. Should my tyranids ally with Genestealer cult so I can take hydras? Are the chaos Marine flyers from forgeworld the best anti air response?

What have you guys found to work best for your faction?

The best Imperium anti air unit is the xiphon interceptor. It hits other hard to hit flyers on 3+, any non hard to hit flyers on 2+ and any other non flyer unit on 3+. It has two twin lascannons and a heavy 3 rocket launcher with s6 ap-2 3 damage fixed.

Tyranids.

1. A swarmlord in a pod, with a flyrant with rending claws. Catapult the flyrant into the flyer.

2. Tyranofex with spray.

3. Hive crone.

Eldar have Dark Reapers and Shining Spears. Both are pretty good at dropping flyers.

Crimson Hunter is no slouch either.

True, in fact this is my go-to choice. I didn't mention it because I feel the "meta" prefers Reapers & Spears.

For the point cost. The tyranofex seems the better option. As it auto hits, 2d6, S7. The crone is only hitting half the time with its S6, or 1 attack S8. While the hive tyrants are amusing, it's a huge point investment.

If the flyer starts withing range of the tyranofex it is 4d6 s7.

The hive crone has reroll to hit vs flyers on its 'misiles' and those misiles make mortal wound on the damage roll 4+. I hve not considered it's flamer or CC weapons.
