first, i just spent 2 hours searching these forums, to see if this has been asked before, getting frustrated lol.

does the SM captain's reroll ones for failed hits apply to the shooting phase AND the fight phase? The reason i am asking is bc for the chaplain it specifies that his aura allows rerolls of failed hit in the fight phase. It doesnt specify for the captain, but I would rather make sure before making wrong assumptions.

The Captain applies to "hit rolls". That means anything that is a "to hit" roll in any phase is affected. As you said, the Chaplain has a restriction on when his works and the Captain doesn't.
