So still having not managed to play a actual game of 8th yet its got me wondering is all all footslogging army viable? By this i mean the use of no transports and only vehicles would be walkers and flyers?
Im more wondering for chaos marines if that's any help.

Foot slogging armies are viable, especially when there are deep striking options.

8th edition heavily leans towards hordes of cheap infantry so absolutely! Especially when you mix in quicker options and deep strikers.

There are zero transports in my death guard army, but a good half of it has no trouble moving around the board while the other half is sturdy enough to stick around to do their job.

Whit the amount of dmg there is in 8th, transports dont realy last long thus it is a situational investment at best. (aka bring if you and your opponent plays rule of cool, 100% avoid if your into comps)

Personly i think the point cost of a transport is better used on screening units to defend the turn 1 alpha strike.

Im honestly considering running a full footslog chair marine army (either Nutglr it slaanesh)
Bringing at least 70 cultists split over 5-6 units (depending on if i go nurglr or slaanesh) big possessed blob couple of jump sorcerors terminator lord warp talons oblits a apostle to keep the cultists in linr a blob of csm with some obliterators and possibly a hell brute or 2 and a contempt or depending on the points.
I was looking through the csm.book and with rhinos having doubled in cost from last edition a rhino rush army doesn't seem so good anymore.

Even with those weapons transports are way more durable now than in previous editions when all vehicles and walkers were paper things. The real problem is that most of the transports are overpriced and basically every faction has access to deepstrike. Footslogging lists are now the most common ones, only a few armies, like drukhari and harlequins can't really play without vehicles.

Well, even a BA army can be successful without transports. In former times, when BA was top level as in the 3rd ed, they used to take Rhinos.
Today, half of the army can deep strike in some way. The other half could give shooty support and occupy mission objectives.

Now and again I will include a rhino for my plague marines but it does depend on the mission. Usually I have it to get across table to grab objectives. But for the most part I don't bother.

40k: Space Marines (Rift Wardens) - 8050pts.
