Just wanted to know some good army combos for when I play with friends. What are the best alliances to make for 2 vs 2 (for a duos tournament)? Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

I’m not really clear on what you’re asking. Ignoring rules would indicate that you’re not worried about efficacy, and ignoring fluff indicates you don’t care about matching canon.

In what context do you want us to respond?

Sorry, didnt word it quite right, just meant for friendly duos. I was thinking tyranids and tau might work, but any other good duos?

Tournament. Open play. I'm not sure why you think the two of those can happen together, or why you would want advice on such a weird and implausible situation.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

in terms of LEGALITY, Imperium and chaos are the ones that have the most mix and match options. chaos vs Imperium is a good fluffy match up as well

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I think he is asking which 2 armies would work as a good combo together. He is playing a 2 player versus 2 player game. All other restrictions aside, a team that consists of both melee and ranged elements on both players army might have the best success.

Sorry people are giving you such a hard time. This topic hasn't been researched as much since it's not a standard format. I can say that if you are keeping command points and such codex armies usually have more going on but if you share cp it's not so bad to have one partner user them all.

I'd avoid things that are waac enough to be rude regardless of what you do. I didn't have much fun vs a list that was guilliman celestine and 2 named chapter masters surrounded by aeldar.

Generally pick partners that cover your weakness. Like taudar or astra and deamons.

So... Is it for friendly games or is it for Tournaments? What are the armies you and your partner have available to you?

As far as friendly games go, Tau + Nids is not fluffy and not something I would not suggest.

If it's for a tournament, Tau + Nids may not even be allowed since they don't share a common Faction Keyword.

It could be Tau that have come to see a new "greater good" (the Hive Mind) thanks to some genestealer shenanigans. That would still be fluffy!

Except that Tyranids don't make alliances, even if the Tau were convinced the Tyranids were helping towards the greater good, the Nids would slaughter the Tau on sight for more biomass.

Eventually that would be true, but the Hive Mind would totally be willing to make use of some converted Tau in a contested battlezone. Once the conflict was won they would be up for consumption, but before then they would be seen as useful weapons for the Hive!

Is there any fluff evidence for this?

Genestealer cults. He's basicly suggesting "this Tau army is a Tau genestealer cult" I think

I know what he's saying but Tyranids don't fight alongside the cults: the cults weaken a planets defenses via religious uprising but once the Hive Fleets arrive, all non-pure strain Genestealers are massacred along with the populous.

There is a brief shining moment where the cult fights alongside the Tyranids. The Cult itself doesn't take over the planet, they weaken it. Tyranids only turn on the cult after the job is done.

Which is what I was asking for fluff evidence for since I have only ever read of cults being torn apart along with the rest of the population of the planet since the hive mind does not differentiate between half breeds and non-Tyranids. The only time I can think of Tyranids ever not immediately attacking a non-Tyranid being was during a Daemon invasion when the Nids stopped attacking the daemons when they realised they couldn't use them as biomass.
