Subject: If you had one event to go to in 2019, which one would it be?
My friend and I are getting back into the wargaming hobby, with 40k specifically.
In 2019, we want to check out one event. We are thinking either Las Vegas Open or Adepticon, but open to any really.
We plan on taking our 40k armies and playing in something, but not interested in tourney-centric events. More "fun" events that may have a tourney structure, but isn't taken "too serious", for 40k.
Which event would be best for the over all gaming experience? Which event has the most non tourney gaming events just for fun?

I had an absolute blast at Adepticon last year (my first time there), and I'm going again this year. I didn't even take an army or anything and just hung out last year and watched various open games and got some demos and stuff. This year, I am doing a Shadespire tourney and a Blood Bowl event. Even if you're not huge into tournaments, there's plenty of other miniatures related stuff going on at Adepticon. I haven't been to LVO, but my impression is that it's a little more focused on tournaments (didn't see as may hobby seminars, for example, but I may have missed them in the schedule; I didn't look that closely).

Do Adepticon every year since the beginning, always a great time. Did Blood Bowl quite a few years and the folks that run it and the regulars are good people you will have a great time.
8000pts.
7000pts.
5000pts.

Nice. I did stop by the Blood Bowl area last year and chatted with them a bit, and totally seemed like some good folks. Which was a big part of the reason I decided to do that event this year.
I've done Gencon a couple times, too, and while it is a giant, amazing con, I think I kinda preferred Adepticon. I'm not as big into other types of boardgames--minis are my passion--and Gencon is a more "general" con in that it covers games of all types. Which is still cool, but it's so damn big it's impossible to see everything, plus housing is always ridiculous and harder and harder to get. Adepticon had a better 'feel' to it for me, but YMMV etc.

I'm taking a break from Gencon for 2018, as we just built a house and finances are tight, plus I don't want it getting stale as I have been there for the last three years, so I may make it back in 2019.

Locally either Warpcon in Co.Cork or Gaelcon in Co.Dublin. However, I'd love to go to the London GT. Never been before but looks like it would be a good time.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

Adepticon.
As well as there being a ridiculous amount of cool stuff to see an it being held quite close to me, I go each year to run my huge 28mm "Mech Attack" game.
It get's alot of interest and Adepticon rewards me with free admission, a sweet swag bag and prize support for the players. It's the perfect mix of Stuff to see, free stuff and an organization that seems to value what I bring.
Slightly more germaine to the OP's question, Adepticon has a huge variety of both Tournaments and really fun and varried participation games. You can play in top-level competition with your big-name-game of choice and then head over and play a game that you've never even heard of where you'll almost always find great terrain and minis already provided. And that's not even to mention the many opportunities to casully demo games that you may have heard of online but not seen locally.
