So I'm going to be playing my friend tomorrow using proxies to try out some of these units, but i was wondering if Hellblasters with the Assault variant is worth it?
I'm going to be playing Ultramarines with Gulliman too.

So on my Redemptor, I loaded him up with a Macro Plasma Incinerator, onslaught gating cannon, 2 fragstorm launchers and the Icarus rocket pod. I've never used this guy before and hes going to be proxied by my Ven. dred, which I'm thinking is the better choice but I'm hoping I'm wrong. I'm not sure which of his main weapons is "better" but plasma has yet to fail me. (Why isn't this guy T8 or have an invlun)

My Repulsor is going to be shielding a second Hellblaster squad with normal incinerators and a Intercessor squad hopefully for midfield objectives. I've heard this thing isn't worth it but i'll see myself.
It's loaded up with Icarus rocket pod, Twin LC, Onslaught Gatling cannon, 4 fragstorm launchers, icarus rocket pod, the 2 krakstorm launchers and I can't decide on the las talon or the Heavy onslaught gatling cannon.

The assault hellblasters are absolutely worth it. The loss of 1 strength is only an issue if you're hunting high toughness vehicles (which they aren't really best at anyway), but the 2 shots out to 24 lets them obliterate any infantry you point them at. Rapid fire is still good, but I'm convinced assault is the best hellblaster variant to run.

I think both of the primaris vehicles are a little pricey for how fragile they are. I think the Gatling repulsor is better just because it's cheaper. The las variant has a huge target on it, especially if it's carrying hellblasters. I haven't tried the redemptor out yet (I have a gatling one), but I think the degrading profile really hurts it. Between the two options, I would pick the macro plasma incinerator, especially if you take a Gatling repulsor.

Okay. The main reason I was looking at having lascannons on my repulsor is that I'm going to be playing Tau and I expect suits, forge world experimental suits on top of that.
Those jerks have 2D3 fusion shots a piece and he will be taking 2 of them and a 3rd one with burst cannons that shoot 16 shots by himself. With 5W a piece.
And yeah for the price sink the repulser/LR should have invulns. The redemptor dread as far as i can see is massive I don't know why he isn't T8

I really hope the Tank is worth the price sink.
We generally play 1250 pt games because they go quicker but I made a 1250 list to run as another chapter, then for 2k I added Gulliman and the repulser and got pretty short on Pts

In my experience hellbasters make mince meat of Tau suits on their own. They aren't super high toughness or anything, and it's actually hard to shoot lascannons at battlesuits because there are usually hordes of drones ready to soak up shots for them. Use your dakka to clear out as many of the drones as possible, then your plasma should have no problem bringing them down.

Okay so I shifted a few things around to add in a Squad of Reivers with chutes for harrassment/ knocking off a couple drones if need be.

Primaris Captain W/power Fist, 106
Primaris Lt. W/power sword, 74

Intercessor Squad W/grenade launcher, 91
Intercessor Squad W/grenade launcher, 91
Intercessor Squad W/Stalker Bolt rifles+grenade launcher, 101

Primaris Ancient W/ Standard of the Emperor, 69
Redemptor Dreadnought W/ Icarus rocketpods, Macro Plasma, Onslaught Gatling cannon, 2 storm bolters, 197
Reiver Squad W/ Bolt Carbines+ Grav chutes, 100

Inceptor Squad W/ Assault bolters, 135 (I originally had these guys as the Plasma Variant but I'm a little on the fence thinking it would be better to have a squad of reivers)

Hellblaster Squad W/ Assault, 175
Hellblaster Squad, 165

Repulsor W/Ironhail heavy stuber, 2 krakstom, twin heavy bolter, heavy Onslaught Gatling cannon, onslaught Gatling cannon, 2 storm bolters, Icarus rocket pod, 2 fragstorm launchers, 311

Gulliman, 385

This is my list, its very primaris heavy because I've been using marines quite a bit this edition and I think the extra wounds are going to make a big difference. People have been saying that specialists rule this game so I'm going to find out.

Seems decent. I think you could do with more bodies, but you may be limited by your collection at the moment. I do like a small squad of stalkers for holding a home objective though. I personally don't like reivers much, but I haven't really tried them either, so I could just be missing something.

Give the list a try and let us know how it goes!

Repulsors are good and should always have lascannons, because lascannons are fantastic. Heavy bolters do nothing that every other unit in your army cannot do. Seriously, a heavy onslaught gatling cannon has the firepower of two inceptors. Take a las talon - always.

If Tau are firing at your repulsor then that's a good thing, I think. My advice would be to take a librarian and have him cast might of heroes on the thing. That way even their melta spam needs a 5+ to wound. You don't need the lieutenant with Guiliman in the list. Screen it with intercessors, preferably in cover. They are quite difficult to shift.

Stalker bolt rifles on intercessors are a total waste of time by the way. You never want to be standing still - least of all against Tau. Intercessors are actually fairly nasty in cc so you should have them beat Tau over the head at every possible opportunity. If your intercessors advance the Tau player has to deal with them, but if they sit at the back plinking off shots he really doesn't - and against any other opponent you'll seriously miss the second shot within 15".

To be totally honest, repulsors aren't at their best in an ultramarines army. One of the key things they can do is fall back and shoot - which your whole army can do anyway. They are your best way to protect those hellblasters though, and all the box really has to do is keep the squads alive to hit back against the tau alpha strike. That said, I'd either go with two of them (or more) or none. One on its own is too obvious a target. If you're worried about your hellblasters dying you could just spend the points on having twice as many hellblasters in the first place.

A redemptor should, in my opinion, probably never have a plasma gun. That -1 to hit from moving is way too punihshing on a gun that hurts you if you roll a 1. And for ultramarines its even worse still, because you can (in theory) give yourself an extra -1 to hit by falling back. Personally I wouldn't take one at all, but if you have to, take a gatling one. It's actually pretty shooty when stood near Guilliman.

Repulsors and Redemptors are fluffy units. Take em for fun. No, they're not very good, but they look cool and they're part of that Primaris army theme a lot of people like running.

Repulsors probably ought to be tank hunting with las, because nothing else in a Primaris heavy force is going to do that very well.

Hellblasters, both assault and standard options are viable enough. I will always run standard Hellblasters because they have a S8 overcharge and that's relevant both for shooting T7/8 vehicles and doubling T4 infantry.

Yeah the Redemptor needs rules to back it up but I'm still going to try it.

So I put the las talon and twin LC on the repulser and put the heavy onslaught cannon on the redemptor and plasma exterminators back on my inceptors, grabbed a librarian too which put me at about 2100 so I removed the reivers.

Don’t fall into the trap wishing the Redemptor had an invulnerable save or +1T. It’s really good as is plus there are ways to buff it.

Here’s how I ran my Repulsor:

4x Fragstorm Grenade Launchers
2x Krakstrom Grenade Launcher
Icarus Rocket Pod
2x Ironhail Heavy Stubber
Las-talon
Twin lascannons

I have had games where the Repulsor literally destroyed the opponent’s army it has the most weapons of any tank.

An Ultramarine Redemptor is the only one or dreads in general that can fallback and shoot. That’s a lot better in every way than not being able to shoot at all. It throws out a ton of shots and SM armies are the easiest to reroll hits.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.

When Redemptor fall back from combat, it hit on 5s with its guns...... yea, better than not able to shoot at all, but still... feels lackluster, had the Redemptor has something like PotMS, it will be much much better.

I think I'd rather take a Comtemptor Dreadnought instead of Redemptor, a little cheaper, shoots better with hitting on 2s (3s on the move, 4s when you fall back which is just the critical level of wether worth shooting or not in my mind), and tougher with inv 5++....

Yes, but at 5+ When it moves its -1 to hit for heavy weapons, and -1 ultramarine chapter tactic. I'm not impressed by the stats of the redemptor. Its great looking, but dies to fast. Running it as raven guard helps, -1 to hit at more than 12". Also might of heroes helps with +1 toughness.

Agreed. Contemptor is better.

Contemptors are great but they aren’t a direct comparison. They are probably the best dreadnoughts for bashing things (which is arguably the point of dreadnoughts) but they have far, far less shooting than a redemptor.

I see a redemptor as a counter-assault unit for a shooty army. Crucially, it has a ton of guns of its own, so it can contribute to the dakka. Then when the enemy comes close it can bash them.

And Redemptor does d6 damage with its fist which is awesome.

My redemptor has performed well. It has the gatling loadout. It puts a lot of shots down range. I've never felt it was not pulling it's weight.

I won
He conceded at the end of his second turn, we played deadlock and at that point it was 8 to 4. I never even got to bring in my Inceptors.

The Repulser is a great unit, Primaris marines are great too. I was originally bummed out that they couldn't take special weapons but Hellblasters just delete a unit.

I'm a little sad that my ancient didn't get much off with his banner but my friend also refused to aim at my hellblasters because of that alone.

T9 Repulser is great! I will live by this unit forever now. Mainly for the fact that it has just as much fire power as a land raider while having loads of guns on top of it.

The Redemptor Dread needs either T8, Power of the Machine spirit or an invuln of some sort. Otherwise it's just alright but at 200 pts I'd say its worth it

I had Gullliman, so Ultramarines.

I used the repulser to cover one of his flanks
