Hey guys, I have something I've never painted before to show you! yes, it's still Space Marines but it's a colour I've often had issues with personally I have been asked to paint up a full squad of the special edition Japanese only Ultramarines! and boy i've enjoyed these guys, the posing and dynamism of them is really lovely and I want to save my dollars and get a squad for myself and paint them up as Howling Griffons But we'll see how that pans out, these guys do need the decals put on but i'm waiting for some Micro sol/set but I couldn't wait

I spent a fair bit of the process being careful and making subtle touches to get a really nice look that isn't too over the top but was still easy to replicate if I do more, I am really suprised at how much I like the look of them all, scarily so so I better now leave you with a bunch of pics and I hope you enjoy looking at them as much I enjoyed painting them.

Great stuff, love the gritty feel you’ve got going with them. Also like the shade of blue.

Those are some nice marines. I got two sets (one for myself, and one for my son), but haven't been able to start working on them. You may have inspired me to finally give them a try.

Beautiful models - really good job on the highlights and blending work.

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.

Very nice, indeed.
I also think way you've done the skin looks remarkably realistic!

Thanks guys, I wanted to stick with layered edge highlights for the most part and mix it up with softer work on the skin and gold, I think it works nicely together and compliments those awesome models I'm not overly confident with blue and really relished the opportunity to hone my work with it and build confidence. I really think one day I'll score some for myself and start another army and use them as Howling Griffons

Wonderful painting, lovely shading and choice of colours As for the actual models themselves, I'm rather disappointed. This isn't a dig at your or your painting, this is the first proper look I've had at the Japan-Marines and they just look like kitbashes. The 7th one down for example, is literally just a guy that can be built straight from the box, nothing, not even a special Boltgun on him.

Great work, and very nice models.

Those highlights are really controlled. I like the way the illuminate an otherwise simple color scheme.

Wonderful, characteristic work! Your soft finish-effect lends itself nicely to these guys. And I must say its very pleasant to see you tackle Ultramarines

Where does one even find this squad? Was it an event item?

So you need to buy a whole box to make sure you get a full squad cheeky buggers.

You get two full sets in a box, so 24 minis for ¥750 each. Not too bad for Japan, as long as you don't think about the conversion rate.
